Surely that pitch is going to be made full size and levelled out ready for the new format. As for the new format wish it would have been standard P R 2 up 2 down after a normal regular season, easier for other sports fans to understand and wouldn't have split RL fans like the 2x12 3x8s has. But this is what we have let's get on with it and support the mighty Trin. Has it been said how The 2 teams are been dropped from SL next season is it the bottom 2 or are they exceptions?

It was said some months ago that there wouldn't be exceptions but, if London and Catalan finish 13 & 14th there will be hell on.
I don't wish ill fete on either club but, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at HQ if this happened or if either club faces the drop in 2015.
The whole thing is an utter disgrace and not to dissimilar to the season before SL came into being, which was the last time we were "relegated".
Many fans were lost to the game back then and some have never returned, I fear the same will happen this time around and it will be the clubs at the lower end of SL that will suffer, again.
I haven't felt so annoyed for many years, our sport is a disgrace and someone needs to convince the fans of how this will take the game forward.

Calm Waters don't make good sailors
If you help somebody as you go along then your life hasn't been in vain: |
|
| This has certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons! I think we can safely say more are disappointed and angry than happy.
I certainly wanted P&R to bring back some excitement/anxiety to relegation battles. One of the most memorable games I have attended was certainly V Castleford in the relegation year. In addition clubs with strong ambitions like Fev, Sheffield, Halifax, Leigh etc deserve a chance in SL if they hit the promotion criteria. In whichever format that is in. However I like most wouldn't have what is being proposed in its entirety.
Against popular opinion I kind of like the splitting of the teams into 3x8. We could end up in a group with Castleford, Bradford, Fev, Sheffield, Halifax and it would be a Right royal battle. It would hopefully generate increased revenue for the championship teams and add a bit of spice.
However I'm not sure a league format is the best option. I also, as people have rightly pointed out dont think it is right for 9 & 10 in SL to face relegation. You could miss out on a top 8 finish by points difference and be relegated in the same year. Not fair at all.
If we had a 3 x 8 competition for me it would mainly be, to play for a separate Cup/shield with only the two bottom SL and two top CH playing for promotion/relegation.
As a plate competition I would go Quarter Finals 9 & 10 Super League getting home advantage over 3 & 4 Championship & 1 & 2 championship would get home advantage over 11 & 12 Super League. Followed by a Semi final and final.
As for the relegation part i would either go; As part of the Cup QF The winners of the 1 & 2 v 11 & 12 go into Superleague or simply bottom 2 go down and top 2 come up.
I feel the embarrassment that may come under the current format would be if a 9th placed Superleague club be relegated & 4th placed Championship club be promoted.
Or we could simply revert to 1 up 1 down. I just like the idea of a separate plate competition.

| Excellent post Mick but, how much kudos will there actually be in winning the "plate" competition.
After all, it only shows that you are the 9th best club in the RL world.
There will be some real spice in the games and with the top 4 of the CC likely to be Fev, Fax, Sheffield and Batley, every game will be a derby.
However the fundamental point is that we will effectively be relegated (to the 2nd and there is nothing that we can do about it.
After all the heroics of MC and his team, this is a real kick in the teeth for our club.
NB. not only could a club be relegated from 9th in SL but, a club could be promoted from 4th in the CC.

| What would happen to the relegation issue this year if one of the so called big teams finished in the bottom 2. Would the rules then change.

| Quote: wrencat1873 "Excellent post Mick but, how much kudos will there actually be in winning the "plate" competition. I agree Certainly the kudos would be a lot less. Maybe like a capital cup in football. It's just at present the only aim is Top 8 or Challenge Cup. This offers others the chance of silverware even if its less significant.
After all, it only shows that you are the 9th best club in the RL world.

However the fundamental point is that we will effectively be relegated (to the 2nd Under the current situation everyone in that middle 8 face a relegation battle and feels like relegation even though 4 remain/go up into SL. As in my last post my aim would be to have it as a plate competition and only the bottom 2 fight out relegation. This means 9 & 10 in SL are safe but can compete to win the plate. It's only 11 & 12 that fight relegation against 1 & 2 Championship.]
After all the heroics of MC and his team, this is a real kick in the teeth for our club.

As fans we are never going to all agree on anything. However most would have said something needed changing to the current format of franchise.
My original post aimed to give a different option of the RFL 3x8 formula utilising a plate competition rather than full on relegation battle; not that it's my favourite choice. I would much prefer to have a thriving Super League 1 & 2 where there is 2 up 2 down every year with a one year parachute payment to the clubs going down. Where crowds are good, clubs are managed well and competition healthy. In addition a Yorkshire and Lancashire Cup & Yorkshire v Lancashire 3 match series. However for many reasons this ain't gonna happen!
On the decision to change the competition as a whole I would say -Sky pay the pipers (RFL) & although Sky might not call the tune they certainly have a large say in how it is sung! How much balls the RFL have to oppose them is very debatable. The fans are often left out of any debate but if it wasn't for them there would be no piper and no tune! However without Sky's money would we have a Super league? It's a delicate balance but the fans certainly could do with more of a voice & given more information.
Finally due to the RFLs management & perceived management over the last few years the fans are skeptical to their every move. Trust is low and any decision is met with suspicion. Fresh faces and change in personnel at RFL are needed with emphasis on Improvements in media and marketing. But not underestimating the impact of a new confidence of the fans. This has to be earned obviously but the current lot are unlikely to ever get this trust now over certain historical matters.
Who would be a rugby fan eh Wrencat?
