He kind of got a chance in 2010 when he was assistant to McNamara for the four nations. Although that tournament didn't go too well for England to be honest so we'll leave it there.

| I bet his first day at the helms been a right eye opener.
Players that cant play, players that wont play, players not picked, players wanting out.
Good morning Mr Smith and welcome

| Don't worry pop tart. The point I was trying to make was the fans in Australia rate B Smith more than his brother

| Well, as opening speeches go that was sheer class. Composed, relaxed, gently and realistically motivating. He is a class act. Our current low makes it a tall order but I do believe these players are not as bad as the results or performances. I just think they are on the canvass with the ref counting 6 and are not quite sure if they want to get up and have a bash. I am a Physiotherapist and I know a Physio who knows Brian Smith very well and he takes a whole systems approach. He will shake the place up from top to bottom. I don't know what the contract entails but if we can keep this man at the club then I can see better things ahead. If he wants to retire having restored an old classic he's very welcome! Good luck Brian

| Quote: Uptoncat "I was talking to John Kear about coaching and we got on to Tony Smith. What he did say was that not all players like Tony but they all respect him. I suspect Brian will be of the same mould. If a coach is well liked by everybody then he's probably a bit soft and probably not respected as much. I notice the conditioner at Wakefield is forever engaging in banter with the players......'" ..I have nothing but respect for John Kear as a Wakefield coach for the results he got us when we needed them but Knowing people in RL does give you bits of info that kinda make you think! My source would say great things about our new appointment.....

| Quote: miscreant "Brian Smith will turn it around, given time. No doubt in my mind.
He did it at Hull and Bradford - both on their knees when he arrived - and coaching in England will be a doddle after 25 years at the coalface in the NRL goldfish bowl.
He's the Godfather of coaching and knows than any other coach in SL (including brother).
This is an impressive first interview
I stand by everything I wrote before he'd taken charge of a single match.
By the time the Middle 8s come around, Trinity will be ready for all-comers.

| Things have improved but i'm not getting carried away just yet. Most of our improvement has come from the players finding a new found effort and desire, something which tends to come from new coach syndrome whoever in charge. Remember the much maligned James Webster did the same last year. In fact the same happened with Tony Smith in 2005 and he was useless. I believe with the experience of BS then we will continue to improve but i'm not getting ahead if myself yet, just proceeding with cautious opitimism.

Tbf, if Smith "only" manages the same as Webster last season, then it will be a job well done !
Having said that, his pedigree is massively better than ANY coach that Trinity have had in the last 30 years.
I don't think anyone is getting carried away, as the middle 8 will be tough for every club but, there is no doubt that
we are now competitive and our 2 best forwards (Anderson and Ali) are still to come back and maybe a couple of new players ?
