| Quote Slugger McBatt="Slugger McBatt"I remember that Mamo looked very dangerous last year until his injury. The Hudds coach has admitted that he has had a difficult start to the year, but if he shows some of his pre-injury form from last year, he might do okay. I'm not sure judging a player from Australia in the middle of the Beast from the East is a good way to assess potential.'"
Yeah but it's not just that, He is 'allegedly' on 150k plus and he simply isn't that good - he was never considered top flight in the NRL so why are we treaing him as such. I mean 29 NRL games for Newcastle!
That's less than both Randell and Pauli and I bet combined there not on what Mamo is on nor did they arrive with quite the over inflated reputation.
I don't doubt when fit he's a decent player but he is not and never will be exceptional and if true is nowhere near worth what they are paying him.
So yes I feel we can judge after a year, not just four games as you suggest. He is frankly no better than Jowitt despite Fickle rather pathetic fawning opinion of him. One that simply can't be justified for a player with as far as I can tell 29 games for the NRL's worst team. But hey stick an Aussie accent on any player and some British fans lose all reason.
If he's as good as the demented fickle makes out then frankly Pauli Pauli and Randell are International class by comparrison. There not in my opinion but using his logic they are.

| Quote PopTart="PopTart"As Slugger says he has shown very good form last year so he clearly has the skills.
I'm sure the beast had something to do with it. Can't imagine Pauli Pauli found that much fun either.
However, remember how poor Barba looked when he came here and Tomkins too. They can't all be just going through a poor run. I think some credit needs to go to Chester's tactics and the tackling from the team.'"
Don't buy that, Barba was a superstar, Momo played 29 NRL games for Newcastle - they are not even in the same ball park.
What I don't get is why one poster is so offended by an opinion of a player that isn't even ours. So what, we have two ex Newcastle players of our own both of whom have far better reps so why doesn't he concentrate on them.
I don't rate Mamo or quite a few who are similar. I want Aussies who improve the product or who offer what we can't.
I especially liked the signing of PP because in this country we simply don't have the raw material to produce that kind of player so I get it. Randall I'm less sure of but his opening salvo did look promising.
If Fickle loves Mamo so much he knows where he can watch him play, me I'd rather watch Grix or Jowitt.

| Don't have a love in with Mamo, or an obsession with him.
If you look back vasty, it's you who has the issue with a player that's not ours.
Someone mentioned he didn't think he was that good, then you jumped in with your character assassination, you also failed to mention that when he was fit last year, he had a big impact on Shudds revival, scoring 13 trys in 12 apps.

| I thought Mamo was pretty good when fully fit last year and was Shudds stand out player. They suffered really badly when he was missing. He certainly hasn't picked up this year where he left off. Broughy looks ready for another move. Take them two out and it's Shudds for middle 8's again
All in all it's pretty good news.

| Mamo is a very good player, anybody who holds the opinion that he is not a very good player is a poor judge.

Character assassination, grow up.
I said I didn't rate him enough for him to be worth the money he's allegedly on.
So go on justify to me why he was worse bringing half way around the world and paying what I suspect is three times what Grix the player he replaced is on.
The issue is not how good he is but is he worth bringing so far and paying so much when there are British FB's who could do the job. How will we ever win at international level if we are depending on 29 game NRL players?
However Fickle that's not what this is about is it. You've decided for reasons best known to yourself to have a pop at me. Fine but let's not pretend it's about Momo a player a I doubt you give two stuffs about.

| Handbags at dawn over an Aussie who plays for another team?!
He was good last year - and this year he isn't; that's where my interest begins and ends.

| Mamo may split opinion, I would say though if on a rumoured £150k a year he is better value than blinking Christa Ackroyd's reported £150k a year!!!!
