| I'd played rugby in the morning and travelled to watch the game, we were stood on the concrete terracing, and as I recall Neil scored at the opposite end throwing a dummy that just parted the Aussies and he cantered in from 30 yards or so. Mind you it was a week or so back and sometimes the memory is not as good as it was.

Australia won but Neil Fox showed he still had it. Peter Fox wanted to pick him for GB that year apparently but was overruled - one older player too many I think.

Yes, went to watch Leigh take on The Aussies at Hilton Park on Wednesday November 3rd 1982 (42 years ago yesterday). Leigh were reigning Champions and the Aussies initially showed a little respect by playing a pretty strong team (it certainly featured a certain Brisbane copper called Meninga - now coach). There the respect stopped - they put 44 points on us with just two John Woods penalties for Leigh. The crowd was 7680. To put that gate into perspective; Leigh's home derby against Wigan eleven days later saw 9373 attend.

| Good to see tickets selling really well for this.
Bramley_Moore Dock (Everton FC) and Headingley not far off being sold out, in the first day of priority booking.
They might wish they'd gone for Elland Road (36500) , rather than Headingley (21000).
Be interesting to see what crowd they get for the opening Test at Wembley. Hopefully get a massive one there too.

The referee there Mick Naughten (Widnes) used to hate Trinity.

I did think choosing Headingly for the final test was just conceding it will be 2-0 to Australia by then. They could theoretically switch it to Elland Road, assuming United won't be playing, by giving those who'd bought tickets already the first chance to select their seats, but it would be a logistical nightmare. The Everton venue is a good choice, as it might attract a lot who are just curious about seeing what the new ground looks like. Wembley might have an impact on the Grand Final attendance though. Two big day outs in one pay-day period might be a stretch.

| I think it’s a really smart strategy, as it goes. Get the sold out signs up at Headingley, then Liverpool, to create a buzz and get anyone else who wants to see a game to get to Wembley. Ultimately, I think this series is so important for RL in England that if they sell out Wembley, and have a good calm year in 2026, the sport could really get a grip on the national scene again.
