RIP BIG Bill Ashurst one of the greatest players this country as produced. Skills like you could only dream about seeing these days, fantastic ball handler, he could kick a ball with pin point accuracy, I watched him score a try a BV as a kid where he chipped over caught and stepped and I walked out wanting to be him. He talked fondly of his time at wakefield, he loved all his team mates but above all he loved the club, he even laughed at getting appointed coach then the club selling the players saying that's wakefield I suppose. Great man, great friend but above all great player

Out of interest is Matty any relation?

Never saw him as he played way before I was born, but heard so much about him out and about and on here. RIP to clearly a club legend.

Before my time watching Trinity but, one of the greats of the game. RIP

I was at the featherstone game when he made his debut for us and the newspaper headlines were ‘Ashurst roamed the field like a Colossus’ what a game he had. The best second row forward I’ve ever had the privilege to watch. Proud to have seen him play and talk to him. RIP Bill.

What a player, a proper ball handling forward.

I half remember a Yorkshire Cup game at Bradford when he sold Mumby an outrageous dummy to score.

He was a member of a great Trinity team, in fact, the last time I thought we could actually win something!

Sad to hear about bill ashurst my absolute favourite player in the time I've watched trinity,big and tough with ball handling skills second to none great kicking game and could do the tough stuff in a time when it was accepted as part of the game.A genuine star of RL RIP W. Ashurst.

RIP. He was just before my time but was clearly a super player. Is there any footage of him playing anywhere? Would love to see some of these skills people have spoken about.

The try everyone is remembering was absolute class and genius, he dummied to Dave Topliss and everyone in the ground took it. Even Toppo thought he had the ball.
