| Quote PopTart="PopTart"Why not? We have a French one.
It's all about the income it brings.'"
Come on PT that is a silly argument and you know it. NRL have a NZL based team because it is absolutely plausible, exactly the same with a French based team playing in SL, Toronto are not - Just look at the issues they have had with Visas, Players been denied entry, cost of living not fitting in with the salary cap etc, no matter where the blame lies for those issues they are still issues and they have been showing from day 1...
What income do they bring outside of a artificial investment pumped in from some big money backer? Is this obtainable if said investors decide that they want to move on to there next venture leaving an organisation full of people not getting paid? Hmmm heard that story somewhere before. I keep hearing about all of the income they have generated for Rugby League in this country, where is it?
I hear people talking about all of the headlines they grab for rugby league, I don`t see the same people even mentioning Ben Ikin having a right good laugh at us with the SBW saga.

| If Toronto get a SL place next season I think it sets a precident for the future. Covid will still be around at the start of next season what happens to Toronto then?

| That is the problem the investor who was funding Toronto is no longer able to do so hence the problems with the wages. I believe that Toronto agreed to front the costs for teams travelling to Canada but fortunately that was never put to the test.

| The problem with the Toronto question is the lack of Championship rugby. If there was a season happening, winner gets in makes it easy. Without championship rugby, you have the impossible question of who gets in instead of Toronto.
My suspicion is that Super League will see 2021 as a simple reboot of 2020, which to some extent it is. The season came to an end with the lockdown and all that is happening now is a series of exhibition games in order to get the Sky money. A "start again" decision is the easiest one to make, which means Toronto..
The issue will be whether Toronto can put a side together. The stars have left. They may be able to put together a half-decent championship side, but can they put together a top-flight side? I doubt it. On the other hand, with players doing nothing for a long time, and with probably no income from rugby, can Featherstone, Leigh, Widnes, or anyone else who fancies a chance?
From a "protecting the sport" perspective though, it should be a heartland team. They need punters through the turnstiles more than ever, and a Toronto or London will not achieve that.

I think it's like when Catalans come over to play. Their fans can't afford to come to all games, pick the games they'll travel to. We get nothing from them on match day.

| Also having an empty away stand doesn’t make for a good match day atmosphere.

Agree.
I'd much rather see Featherstone, Halifax, Leigh or the Bulls in SL

| The whole concept of Super League including North American sides was a bonkers idea in the first place. The complete thing was obviously rushed through with out contemplating all aspects involved.
I would be pleased to see Toronto expelled from SL totally, and good riddance!
As for a successor we should look no further than Fev by virtue of the fact that they were runners up in the promotion play off. as to whether the authorities would allow a third side from the WMDC area is another matter.

Ah ok. Completely missed this.
They don't bring income to Belle Vue but equally they don't take money out of Super League of which we take a bigger share.
Clearly it went wrong in the end but they had independent funding.
The idea being that it helps build interest over there so they can build others.
I'd far rather see Bradford back in the league but until they can fund themselves it's no real advantage to anyone either.
I'm not an expansionist at all costs like some but if the numbers stack up I'm ok with a strange location. Will it work long term? Who knows. Probably not. But if it did, rugby league would have great benefit from a Canadian or US market.

As ever I agree with PT
A competitive wolf pack can only be a positive thing for the game as a whole
