| Quote bren2k="bren2k"I don't agree at all with the Govt's initial response being loans to business - without including direct help for individuals - but if I were MC, I'd be looking at applying for the grants and loans now, and worry about the repayments later, when we come out the other side. That could be something that supporters could help with then - rather than expecting people to help now, whilst they're worrying about their own business, jobs, families and health.
Kicking the can down the road I know - but that was always the intention of the "350 billion package" in the first place.'"
This isn't aimed at MC or at Trinity but, for me, if my business becomes insolvent, the very last thing I would want is a loan to keep me afloat.
If a business is already X million in debt, the thought of adding to that seems reckless.
The government really needs to re think its strategy on this.
If they were directly covering the wages of firms that are struggling, it would allow those companies to carry on without adding substantially to their debt and if they want to help to ensure that businesses dont fold, they have to do something along these lines.

I couldn't agree more - the whole thing was a con; packaging it up as a £350 billion package was outright dishonest, when only £30bn of it was direct help for employers; and it should never have been announced without also creating help for employees - either directly, or through their employers.
More to come at 17:00 today, so we'll see what that looks like.

| Yes it does. Better at the moment to keep your prejudices to yourself as it makes you look both petty and foolish.
There is no reason on gods earth why a government whatever it’s hue would want to get this wrong. Come on folks wake up we are in a completely different world with no maps.
It looks a good effort to me.

| Thought Michael spoke very well on the radio tonight. Good discussion all round. As he says 'we're all in it together'.

| Well said. Some of the comments are embarrassing. Seriously, Corbyn and Abbott in this crisis!
I have an international transport business and the £10k SBRR is an unbelievable offer. I think they are adjusting well on a daily basis and who knows, sport may eventually come into the equation.

TBF Jez was ahead of the curve on this one, he has an allotment and many many jars of jam.
Seriously I doubt it would be much different. I don’t think the politicians are in charge anymore, I think the grown ups have taken charge (see Civil Servants etc).

I know that I probably shouldn't reply to this on a "Michael Carter Speaks" thread but, you are wrong.
Yes we are officially out of the EU but, THE most important part was always the deal that was agreed - supposed to be complete by the end of the year but, with the Coronavirus now engulfing the world, everyone has more important things to worry about.
As for MC, as usual, he speaks so well and his output is always well informed and balanced.
The club is very lucky that he took the reins and is still so heavily involved with the club
