| Quote PopTart="PopTart"I'm not sure what the problem is.
In statistical terms, we haven't played the promoted side first up since 2014.
In terms of travelling to Toronto, we have to do it sometime, why would first be different when it isn't the first game of the season.
Can't see the issue.
I'm pretty certain if someone wanted to stick it to us they would not pick Toronto to do it. That's a good shot at a win for us compared to many other possibilities.'"
We played HKR in 2018, but not sure if they were newly promoted that year?

| Quote wrencat1873="wrencat1873"Have you forgotten London already ?
Plus, with promotion not having been a certainty until last season, we do still seem to be favourites to play any promoted side on the first game of the season.
Maybe it's tricks of the memory but, didn't we definitely played Widnes first after their promotion - I can remember all the coaches lined up at BV and I recall playing KR first when they cam up.
In a 12 team comp, I think that we are beating the "average" for these things, by a distance.
It would be a great quiz question to ask which sides have been promoted from the Championship during the SL era ?'"
Cas played London first according to the betfred sight, they won, we lost.

| I've a feeling that Toronto's first home game may be against St Helens. Reigning champions visit to start the season with a bang, plenty of marketing to get a big crowd so the RFL can say they were justified in allowing Toronto in.
On the other hand they may think that giving them Wakefield or HKR is giving them a 'free hit' to get off the mark with two points. If that's the case let's hope we do 'em over by plenty.

Their first home game is gonna be in April apparently so can't be a season opener.

Saints wont visit Toronto for the first game of the season, although Toronto could visit Saints.
I dont think they can/will play any actual home games until mid - end April.
Their first "proper" home fixture played in Toronto this season was 28th April.
Unless climate change really kicks in before next season, it's too damn cold over there until April.
IIRC, they are playing their fixtures in blocks of 2 home then 2 away (or visa versa)
Therefore, I would expect them to start with two away fixtures, which would mean that their 3rd and 4th home games could actually be played in Toronto ?
Although I still dont believe that they "fit" into SL - a 7000 mile round trip for the weekly fixtures is just crazy, Toronto is a great city to visit and it makes Leeds look like Fev

| As far as playing the newly promoted sides, we didn't get Hudds in 2003, or Salford in 2004, or Leigh in 2005, or Cas in 2006, or Hull KR in 2007, or Harlequins in 2008, or Crusaders in 2009 or leigh 2017.
We got Hull KR in 2007, Widnes in 2012, Hull KR in 2018 & London 2019.
So only one in the 2000's but 3 this decade so far.

| I turn 50 next year, so am spending the entire year giving absolutely no $h1ts about anything, including the kids inheritance; on that basis, I might see if a trip to Toronto is do-able.

| Just looked at average climates in Toronto for April.
Still very cold and wet, without putting a downer on a potential away game in April we don't seem to play wet weather rugby very well these days.
Hoping we don't get them first to be honest
