| We have trouble with edge defence on both sides of the field no matter who plays there and have had that trouble for at least 4 years.
BJB seems to have no confidence in his inside defenders and for good reason because they don’t do their jobs well and don’t work as a unit.
On the other side of the field how many times have we seen TJ left in no mans land because his inside defenders have failed to map outwards from the play the ball.
It’s been a frustration of mine for season after season, it’s not the fault of an individual player but rather the team as a defensive unit.
The fact that we haven’t or can’t fix it suggests that the coaching staff don’t understand how to coach defence or are incapable of passing on their knowledge.

| Genuinely felt for kirmo on trin tv , the lad looks dejected and looking like one too many knocks on his already bad knees

| Quote Miro="Miro"Ben Jones Bishop, runs out of the defensive line, jumps up in the air for a ball he has no chance of catching (see Salford effort) , leaves his opposite winger unmarked...result try. Or, cuts inside to help his centre who, to be honest, needs no help in many cases (not always granted) . This has been his tactic for a few seasons now, never more evident than in the Salford game. Is this coached ? I hope not.'"
Agree 100%, Miro!!!!

But at times BJB seems to be unable to close up even the narrowist of overlaps.

| But, having criticised BJB, and others on the wing (like I and others have) for not closing the overlap, where is the full back in these situations? Traditionally, he was the last line of defense. In today's game the role of full back seems to be focused more on attacking qualities and tactics rather than the defensive role.

| Quote Fishermanscap="Fishermanscap"Basically we’ve been found out in the forwards, we are soft especially when Dave isn’t playing. Only King has any go forward and he’s not a tackle buster though he does drag the game forward.
Arona - great but crocked
England - totally gone
Huby - who knows
PP - I really don’t know what’s gone on here
Hirst - only ever a filler, played more games than he’s up to imho
[uKirmond - even more gone than England[/u
Batchelor - has a poor season due mainly to injury
Ashurst - where is he?
Koppy - runs hot and cold
Crowther - dome what’s been asked of him
Anakin - what’s the point, I’m not a huge fan but he has to be a better option than Kirmond!!!!
Tangles - you have to feel sorry for him.
So on currentish form the only two forwards we have up for the fight are King, Fifita and Crowther. Not much to work with for any coach.
Not all Chester choices have been smart imo but you have to feel for the bloke.'"
With the benefit of hindsight, I think Kirmond should have gone to Bulls when Kear went there. "Leader of men" I think Kear has described him as - he knew that's what the Bulls (relatively) young squad needed.
I know Kear tried to get him - bit like Webster, P/T training, develop your off-field interests, easier on the body when your career has taken such a physical toll, but Wakefield wanted him and that was his decision. I agree, he looks physically shot now.

People really do have a short memory. Kirmond was always going to stay this year whether he was up to it or not, It was mentioned at the start of the season he would be a bit part player this season and he is on a reduced deal to reflect that (Unfortunately the number of injuries we have had has led to him having to play a lot more this year).
It is his testimonial season and IMO he deserved a deal out of principal for all those years he stuck by us when he could of had his pick of clubs on a lot more money - As I say, people really do have a short memory and seem to forget that.
I usually don`t agree with giving a player a deal based on circumstances like this, but I think in this situation he has earned it over the years, he stuck by the club in its darkest day and has always been that player that gives his all and that is clear to see, now the shoe is on the other foot some fans want to throw him out like an old toy.

I wouldn't disagree with that but why persist in playing Kirmond when Anakin is available. Not as good a player imo but as far as I know fully fit. Seems odd to me as Kirmond seems to get injured within minutes so he needs to be the absolute last option to me and that hasn't happened.
He ay be a great leader but if he can't stay on the pitch its a worthless gift. I feel for the guy but when its over its over.

Have to agree re Anakin over Kirmo. It does seem that he's pushed his body as far as he can but there has to be a line.
One think about it, Kirmo has been a great servant to the club and he can walk away with his head held high.
