| The market lost it when this new one was built, the old one though old a shabby was brilliant the new design just isn't right.
I quite like trinity walk but the market is awful and yes wakey doesn't need another cinema.
A lot of shops closing at the minute in centre aswell.....

| I thought that the council got the new market hall built for free, as a back hander so to speak from whoever built Trinity Walk?

Part of this is correct, the new Market Hall was built by the developers of Trinity Walk at no cost to the
Council, it was built for free because the developers needed the site of the old Market Hall for the Trinity Walk development.
Back when the new Market Hall was built everyone was against it, letter after letter appeared week after week in the Wakefield Express from everyone saying how bad it was. The Market Traders have seen a fall in footfall thru the market hence the fact that full commercial rents have never been charged.
The proposed sale of the site will bring capital income to WMDC part of which will be used to help market traders relocate to either Pontefract or Castleford markets these are more commercial than Wakefield or they can relocate into the Ridings to help fill the vacant shops. The outside market traders will see their businesses offered better outside space with more footfall.

| Maybe they could help some of the businesses relocate to the empty shops in Wakefield city centre, there are enough of them!

| Was the old market really thriving in the years before the new market was announced and built? It may have been on Saturdays and Sundays but was 3/4 empty the rest of the week.

| I haven't set foot in the either the old or new market in 20 years; do people still shop in them?
Personally, I welcome a new cinema - it's in a good spot; I hope it's a nice one with big seats and no popcorn. And ushers.

| New indoor market could have been good if it was like the old one with another floor.
The size of it and the roof height take away all the atmosphere of a market.
Huddersfield indoor market is a good old fashioned market, plenty of variety.
Best thing in there is Olivia's Cafe, they do a right jacket tatty and if you like your toasted currant tcakes with plenty of butter on, that's the place to go.

| I'd like to see a luxury cinema like the one in Leeds with the extra large comfortable seats and the waitress service serving proper food rather than hot dogs n nachos.
That's a whole different experience to Cineworld

Took the little lad to watch Walking with dinosaurs 3D the other week and needed to sell a kidney for the pleasure!!
I took my own 3D glasses bought the traditional bag of PnM and a juice for Jnr and a coffee for me...£35!!!
I wouldn't mind if it was relatively clean!!

Certainly on a Sunday. The car boot sale is a big loss. (Especially for counterfeiters )

YES !!! People still do shop in markets ! Despite the fact there are far less stalls than the old market there are still some very good ones. On the outside market I shop at one of the fruit & veg stalls for very fresh fruit , veg & eggs at very good prices. On the indoor market there is an excellent shoe stall where I always buy my boots & slippers again at much better prices than the high street stores ( leather fur lined boots for less than £30 - ideal for winter rugby !). There is also an excellent stall selling hosiery / gloves/ socks / hats etc again great for the rugby . In one of the shops running along the front of the market there is a cobbler / key cutting stall which again great value. So being a regular customer of all these stalls I feel satisfied that I get value for money AND support local people who may in turn spend their monies supporting OUR team ...its a win win !
