Agreed!
Yes - there were errors, but there always will be in every game.
The lads worked their socks off for that and deserved the win - a tough win against a side with some talent - this is not the same Widnes side we beat last season!
Going forward our next target has to be to improve our results at RSS/BV. We have 4 wins now, yet only 1 at home, which is clearly not enough.
Bring on les Cats!

| Yeh here we go.
Just posted about negativity on another thread.
For goodness sake we won, got two valuable points.
Widnes were never going to be push overs.
I am happy today.

| More thought needed on last tackle kicks. There were some awful ones last night that neither created a try scoring opportunity, forced another set of six or forced an error. At times we'd have been better off just throwing the ball to one of their defenders.

Sorry but no, this is not the 1970's.
These days a 20 point lead can be overcome - at no point last night were we ahead enough to play this mythical "safe game".
Twelve point ahead the a rotten bounce and it's down to on score - nothing in other words.
Smith and Sykes had to look for winning ends to every set of 6 all night because Widnes never lost touch. This mythical team that just stops playing and can be held at bay with safety first play again does not exist except on here.
Sure a fair few things didn't come off tonight but they had to be attempted end of and I salute them for it. Widnes were never beaten and forced errors by not giving us any breathing space, show them some respect. These players are not brain dead, modern RL is now down to split seconds, I suggest some folk on here watch the game in real time and make the decisions they have to and then imagine you are being physically assaulted at the same time. This is not park rugby.
Well done lads a well fought game against a good team.

| After Wakefield scored from the kick off ,we might have expected a comfortable win.Previous to last night ,Widnes have only lost one game at home ,they beat Warrington 38-22 and drew with Bradford 22 each.Wakefield's 28 points is the highest score this season against Widnes at home.Looking at it in that way it was a good result for Wakefield.

| Yes we made some errors but have a look at Widnes home record against away and you can see it was not going to be a walk over.Saying that we still have plenty of things to work on thats for sure but at least its 2 points better than Friday morning.

At what point did I call for safety first play??? I'm sure if you re-read my post and actually process it before jumping all over it you'll see that I was merely pointing out that our kicks didn't put enough pressure on Widnes, especially on a pitch where the bounce is unpredictable.

Good effort from the pack to put us on the front foot, but unable to take full advantage. The sky team seem to find it hard to say anything good abot us.'"
We did a lot well as Agar says in thhe interview reported on the club site. What he doesn't mention is why we keep losing or nearly losing matches we should be winning, which are the stuoid mistakes we keep making. Every single Widnes try last night the direct result of an error by us. When we went on our run at the end of last season we cut these down a lot. Earlier we were as we are now. I'm still happy with Agar overall but I'm sorry Richard, we are not improving. Error strewn and fragile in defence, especially near our own line where we seem incapable of covering our flanks, especially when Lynne is at centre. Looking at Wilkes' speed last night you almost wonder if he could do a job there! (joke)

It's pretty hard to enjoy when the team keep making extraordinarily stupid mistakes and they are the same thing over and over again. I'm not being hard on them. At times they looked brilliant last night. Yes, everything Agar says is true, but it's only half the story. I don't think constructive criticism ois being unfair or wanting every win to be epic. It is just very frustrating to watch a side that looks capable of very good things, keep chucking the opposition an invitation to score. Hudds and Salford at home, even Hull and Warrington, all games we could easily have got points from if we had just played basic Rugby League. Yep, I know it's easy to say from the touchline, but it's a hard watch sometimes. Brilliant one minute, brainless the next.

At times we play some very good Rugby League. There is no shortage of flair in that side, that's for sure...I just wish they could learn the right and wrong times to turn the gas up and take chances. If we get that right we will be a very dangerous team. If we keep going for the glory pass or kick every minute, we'll keep the brain farts going. I'm not meaning to sound overly negative, we are allowed to praise and criticise or what's the point of a blog site?

The modern phrase is game management, and it is something that we fall down at regularly. There is talent in the side no doubt, but we need to box clever a little more often. Its not about being negative on the last, its about setting the platform to be able to use our skills the best way. And the best way is to be start our sets from halfway whenever possible by getting repeat sets or forcing the opposition to have to run their ball off their own line. Miracle plays, or 'power plays' should be very occaisional shock plays, not 'de rigueur'.

Don't worry he will jump onto any little maggot sized thing he doesnt agree with. Your point was excellent our last play kicks were shocking like they have been all year. They don't have to be safe just so they aren't so easy to catch. Smiths passing ability is the real stand out but our kicks have been poor all year.
