And the Wigan game changed within 48 hours to the Saturday instead of Sunday. I reckon it knocked 2500 off that Wigan game.'"
Unfortunately, average attendance figures don't come with a foot note and some grace saying things like 'bad weather, +2000 on this one'.

| Quote: BelleVueLifer "Your home attendance vs London - 5273. Your home attendance a week later vs Wigan 8023....on your theory, clearly away followings are contributing towards both our average gates.
The last home gate we had against London was 5876 and our last home game vs Wigan was 9107. So, does that mean more londoners and wiganers preferred travelling to Wakefields 'tin pot' ground as a pose to Huddersfield's nice shiny modern one or does it mean that maybe, just maybe, the marketeers at Wakefield are doing a good job at generating increased attendance figures?
Away followings help all clubs but You have to acknowledge that our increased attendances aren't just due to increased away followings like your comment suggested.'"
It only reads like that if your being defensive. I stated your crowds have gone up since the takeover and your average this year will have been boosted by good away followings. It will probably fall a bit when the likes of catalans, Salford and London come to town.
I know our attendances have suffered big time. I have not got a season ticket this year along with about 8 of my family for the first time since the early 80s. And i also agree that our average attendance is made up of bothe home and away fans

| I have always been of the opinion that an increase in home support is due to that team gaining more local (home) support. And again i might be wrong but did we not sell more season tickets this year? If correct might this have an effect.

I recall a match v Catalans early last season. Club did a lot of promo work and free/ cheap tickets for sure, but Catalans brought a bus full and the crowd was around 9 1/2 k as I recall. This tells me all I need to know about our crowds. HKR brought about 2 k...that leaves 7+ k of ours. We're buillding nicely thanks but we won't get carried away and think we are SL champs yet

It's good that your fans finally recognise the good football we are playing and for the last couple of seasons' have rewarded us with your presence by making it your must go to see game of the season.

| Our attendances have consistently gone up year on year for the last 10 seasons barring one maybe even two years. To say that is down to away fans is ridiculous

The Catalan attendance last season was 7,254 which is surely our best against them to date and pretty impressive when you considered there is probably at most 10 away fans.

As opposed to our home game against HKR being played on a bitterly cold snowy Saturday night in front of the SKY cameras. A night when any sensible human being wanting to go out would have chosen an evening with friends or family at a warm and cosy restaurant or at the very least would have stayed in and watched it on the telly.

Jeez you always need to have a snide swipe. If anything the away support from clubs like Bradford and Cas has dwindled. You improved showing over the last two years hasn't come close to replacing it.

Spot on!
This is not recent, it started after 2004 and has continued steadily since. The new regime has pretty much carried on where the old one left off.
2004 average about 5000, lowest gate 3004, highest about 7,500
by 2008 average about 6800, lowest gate 5016, highest 9287
by 2012 average about 7900, lowest gate 5876, highest 9786
For me it's the lowest figure that matters most. Since 2004 we have doubled our core support - few other clubs have managed that without a new ground in that time period.
Although we are heavily discounting it's still a hell of an achievement from the old and new regimes.
If we have a good year I can see it reaching an average of 8000+ and a few 10,000 gates. Heady times for those who were there at BV in 1998 when we pulled just over 800 for a match against York.
Note: My averages are rough estimates.

Didn't Durham Giant just tell you it's all down to the Giants legendary away support, do keep up.

Note
You're pretty much bang on Vasty and what is even more impressive is that the fan base has continually grown with a club that in reality has had little to no success on the field and suffered many setbacks off it in a dated stadium. This in my opinion shows the potential for the club if it were to ever sustain a competitive team.
The true test for Spirit1873 will be how to maintain the fan base whilst the cost of ST's increase.

Indeed, the biggest competitor to Wakefield in terms of capturing the sporting public of Wakefield is Leeds United, whose fans are becoming rapidly disillusioned with the realities of their long term absence from the Premiership which will be helping.
It is amazing looking round town nowadays, you can almost guarantee to see at least some kind of Trinity gear as you go about, back in the early 2000's it was rare. I think we are seeing the benefits of excellent community work over the last 10 years or so as well, we have much more presence in the city these days, a great deal of which are youngsters which is encouraging.
