I think Salford wanted a coach asap - as demonstrated by the appointment some weeks ago while Gentle
rlwanted to honour his contract to the season endrl
rlHe is assistant coach for The Kangaroosrl
rlHULL KR May Be Favouritesrl

| i had just read that about him been assistant coach of the national team.
sounds better by the minute.
don't want to get too excited about this, but he fits the bill exactly regarding who and what i want as coach.
he will be talking to ellis about us as well, ,+ if he knows the national team as well he may be able to get a couple of them over here......

| We are not actually linked to Gentle though. The article says Cas are linked, and we have a vacancy too.

That was in May - they have since appointed Matt Parish.

| in fairness to the club. the players that have signed.... ellis masselot and tongia, tongia has only signed for the last 4 games of this season currently, and masselot isnt going to be a first choice, he will be a fringe player playing reserves pushing for a place. only ellis that i would consider would be a first teameer of the three, and given his reviews, i think most coaches would have him.
so i dont really think its an issue of coach before players. although i would like a coach first so that that excuse cant be banded around. the sooner one is announced, the sooner we can get on with new signings. perhaps next seasons coach is currently at another club and doesnt want to unsettle his players ?

| To be honest I get the impression it's a British or British based coach.
Peter Gentle sounds very good but I seriously doubt he would sign Ellis or Wilkes because I doubt they would even be on his radar. If they are then he is seriously thorough in his research.
To me there is someone pulling the strings at the club who understands the British game. He is able to tap in to that core of British players who make up the hard working journeyman class. Good players but not star players.
If this is not the case and it is someone from the NRL then someone is advising him who to go for to match the new guys requirements. I've mentioned him before though I have no proof these signings have Steve Ferres or someone like fingerprints all over them.
Jimmy and Steve worked together for a long time but not sure if they got on well at the end.

Have seen JE and SF quite a few times together this season on match days at Belle Vue.
What you say makes a lot of sense.

The link on the previous page actually says 'Indeed, the Wests Tigers assistant would also come into the running for Wakefield and Hull KR...' so it does link us with Gentle, not sure of the reliability mind.

You are right it does.
What I meant though was that the story links Cas through Cas's own source but just adds that we would be in the running simply because we have a vacancy. It's his own conclussions rather than having any fact to base it on.
To be honest, anyone that is either available or mentioned as a possible with another club will also be linked with us. Doesn't mean anything really, just space filler to get the fans talking.
Saying that, he looks a decent option.

Mr Agar has quite a good awareness of the British game.. saying it was an understanding would probably be going to far but he'll have players like Ellis and Wilkes on his radar
