About 200k I think, we've only spent 40% of the salary cap in recent years, and Alker and J.Smith two of out biggest earners won't be playing for us next season, so its easily seen how we're managing to stay under the cap, as for money wise we haven't spent big in years, maybe Wilkinson was storing some money away and felt now was the time to spend.

| Trolling or not, I never thought I'd see the day where any form of doubt is cast upon whether or not we're breaking the salary cap. Good time to be a Salford fan, except for the hefty beatings we've been having of late

| They’ll be nowhere near the Salary Cap.
Just look at the teams that are, the likes of Leeds, St’s, Warrington etc.
Whether the club can afford it, with such poor crowds, is another matter.

Already stated in my last post why we would be able to afford it, maybe we even used some of the staidum loan money, who knows?

| I can't see why this is an issue.
Under the live salary cap they will not be able to register a player if their contract is going to take them over the limit.
I think they are building a good side but like the man said, they are still not Leeds or Saints so I can't imagine this will take them over the ca limit, the question is whether they can afford it. We obviously don't know where they are getting the money but why should it be under hand. Couldn't they just have someone giving them money above board.

I think the idea of not being able to break the salary cap when it's live is a bit of a myth. The NRL have had the system in place for a while and Melbourne have only just been caught this season. Given the ineptness of the game's governing body, it wouldn't surprise me if teams were found to be somehow finding a way around the salary cap at the moment.
I think most people will say it's pretty obvious that we're still nowhere near overspending the cap. John Wilkinson isn't the sort of guy to just blindly throw money around in the way that some teams have done in the past resulting in them going into administration. I think prior to the building of the new ground we were probably curbing our spending a little. Now that the build is finally underway, it must have been decided that we're now going to up the activity in the player market a bit.

If I remember rightly when we sold Gareth Ellis to Leeds we were told something along the lines of "Transfer fees cannot be applied to the salary cap"
I could be wrong, if I am wrong I am sure somebody will correct me.
