If we let Brough go at the end of the season for free when he is out of contract rather than selling him before this season/soon ish then we are giving money away.

The difference is that Atkins had a lot longer left on his contract than DB. Unless there was a ready made replacement lined up we would be foolish to let Brough leave before the end of the season. He is one of the best Scrum Halves in the league and average league position is still likely to be worth a point in the franchise application.
