A genuine question from my 5 year old son, why when we are 5 metres from our own line do we give the ball to senior?

I get the giving the forwards a break has now become a big part of the game, I get that some wingers and centres are good at making those yards but what are we doing? First 3 tackles are wingers and centres? Regardless of the situation.
