Its a collective respondibility IMO. Agar hasn't helped matters with his refusal to give raw kids a go in favour of seasoned pros playing out of position and choosing to bring in young fringe players from outside of the club above those who are already here.

When Agar arrived about 20 months ago, do you think the young players we had were ready?

Wildie I think was, the others have shown this year they were ready to step up. Beyond that I dont remember many of the young players being loaned out to get valuable game time to develop, but that preceeded Agar, which is why I feel its a collective responsibility rather than just one indiviual.

To be fair he had a nice group fresh out of strolling to a top of the table finish and grand final win playing fantastic RL.......From watching that team every week back then it's a shade disappointing to see where......Wildie....Trout....Annakin.....Cowling.....Walshaw....are now in terms of their development.....

Teams like that one don't come along very often and at this stage of their careers I would have expected a bit more of a return.....not sure who's at fault with that? Maybe it's easier for youngsters like that to bed in at a Wigan or a Leeds.....

That team was special though and should have formed the backbone of our side for years to come.....the best I'd seen before that was the side that pushed the 'great' Leeds academy winning side all the way.....with the likes of Brough....Handforth....Mason.....Feather.....etc.....

Don't know the 4 but makes it a bit clearer why we have re signed Sykes, L.Smith and Ali.

As for the juniors, Annakin has done ok, who's to say Cowling, Goulding, Walshaw and Kay wouldn't have. Not saying bang them all in at the deep end but you have to be a bit pro active and look to the future. Lyne was looking good until his injury, after that looked no better than what we have at the club already.
We had a 3 year plan, in that time with correct management all round, the club would be in a better state. We have lived the dream by making the 8 in the first year, that has lead to us abandoning the 3 year building plan.

Agar wasn't appointed until 2 years or so after that, so who's responsible for their and other juniors lack of development in the meantime?

If I remember correctly, didn't they all play under Tony Drury ????

Whatever happened to him, and is it coincidence that these promising young lads have not developed as much since he left ???

Tony Drury and Glenn Morrison will have had day to day contact.

However John Kear was the only guy who could give them a chance at the next level.

Can't think of any other names Clan, could it be anyone else ?

Tony in particular and Glenn to a much lesser extent did well with the resources they had, that's the key word, 'Resources'. Physiologically the juniors at Wakefield have suffered from a lack of development because of a lack of funding and resources. The players they were beating at U18 physically became bigger, stronger and faster which in turn allowed them to develop technically as well.

Those players were let down by the club and their opportunity to become SL players was damaged by the lack of investment. Maybe that was just the reality of being at a struggling club or maybe every penny and every resource was pulled into supporting the first team meaning the juniors were underdone in comparison with their peers.

Richard Agar had nothing to do with that, he has however done what he can to help those players who remained to catch up.

Why are we in this embarrassing position again. Why can we not go two seasons without a crisis. We the supporters have no blame in this or any of the previous problems, but it will be us who will have to pay up to see the way things are going a patched up squad. I thought no players would be sold for at least two months but now we learn that we have accepted an offer on a contracted player and I have no doubt he will not be the last. I also believe that more will go in the next 8 weeks despite reassurances to the contrary. I guess being on contract at wakefield does not guarantee security that they will be here next season but that they have a greater asset value when we come to off load them.
