| Quote: Slugger McBatt "The irony of all of this is that I rely on Mr Box (or whoever will make the decision) to approve the scheme for the benefit of the city because of the way the Thornes Park project went.
My rationale for this is that Mr Box et al acted for how they thought the city was best served, regardless of how it affected those who would have benefited from a different decision. Even though it was contrary to what everyone on here wanted, I assume that they took into account the overall benefit to Wakefield when considering the cost, the traffic problems, the impact on local residents for what was in reality just a new home to the city's rugby club. They thought that the minuses outweighed the pluses, perhaps bouyed by the thought that the franchise decision had just bought them three years thinking time.
Compare this to the Newmarket scheme. In weighing up the pluses and minuses, there is no contest. Thornes Park wouldn't have provided hundreds of new jobs to the people of the district in the way that Newmarket will, and Newmarket will not affect as many residents. Also, the area can hardly be described as tranquil, on the edge of the motorway.
So if we look at the precedent of how those making the decisions have acted before, I can't see any other decision being reached than approval.
So to the residents, as someone has already said, get involved with the scheme to make sure your voices are heard in order to minimise its impact, and stop using arguments of residents in a residential area to strengthen the arguments for the project, as the video simply bolsters the argument to move the ground away from Agbrigg.'"
Good post, any new devlopment affects somebody but the negatives in this development far, far outweigh the negatives...

| The nerve of some people, coming onto a RL forum to air their own opposing views about the proposed new Community Stadium , what would be better than having a nice modern development in place of a desolate no doubt littered wasteland at Newmarket???, I know which I would rather pick!!
I used to live in Glasshoughton right at the back of where Castleford's new stadium will hopefully be located, in fact you from my old house you could watch the progress of the build!, would the noise and traffic bother me NO, but im biased, im a RL fan .
Anyway all the best with the PP, hope to be watching the derbies, Cas at Newmarket and Wakey at Glasshoughton

I didn't save that one unfortunately.
The reason they have taken that video down is because of the feedback on here. I am now well beyond doubt that this forum is being monitored and that material posted is highly likely to feature in their material going forward.
Paranoid - maybe. Cautious - definitely!

| Having looked on the WCCG web site I would have to agree with TRB that these people are probably monitoring what is being said on RL Fans, also I think you all need to be really careful at this point as to what you are posting on here as a few cut and pastes could make for some great propaganda on there web site of even the Wakefield express where it seems to me that they already have some support. As for the fictitious posts that have been put on the WCCG site (I am guessing by a poster from this site) I really don’t think this is doing your cause any good as once again they could be able to use this to there advantage. My advice would be stay out of the argument and wait to see what happens when planning is applied for because my guess is at this point it will be granted.

| I would just like to make clear an issue which has been mentioned elsewhere, namely that posters will need to be cautious over the posts which they make as we believe there is a strong possibility that this forum is being monitored by people who would rather this development didn't happen. As such, can I please urge caution in the comments made - i.e. think before you type!
Thank you!

| I am 3 years into a dispute with a local authority who are having their strings pulled by conservationists who employ arguements ticking many environmental boxes. My adversaries are extremely politically astute and skilled campaigners (I can't help having a grudging respect for them). I am pretty sure that the conservation / environmentalist lobby train activists in political campaigning and that such taining involves creating controvertial debate that is attractive to the local rag.
I have learned that ignoring the goading of your advesaries is the best strategy. They are entitled to their view and their political campaigning. The best startegy to stay focused on the strengths of your position and continue to sing the merits of your project.
I find myself having considerable sympathy with Tigermans views. Beating these people in a debate is not a pre requisite of having a new community stadium built for the benefit of the people of Wakefield Met.

That's good info. I would agree, as others have stated, that it's best to just stick to the reasons we have in support of the proposals. Those who come on here engaging in debate have nothing to lose from doing so, but potentially quite a lot to gain.
I do still feel that the campaign to get our message heard via the media - mainly through the WE - is essential as public opinion will count when the politicians get involved.

Good thing there are no pet graves at the Newmarket site.

| I cant see what people typing on here has to do with the proposed stadium. Its just fans expressing there opinion and it shouldnt have anything to do with the proposals. If i say kill all frogs and insects is there a chance the people who oppose the stadium will use this against us
