It's strange that so many are having a go for us potentially losing one of our young players but, the very reason that Saints have a vacancy, is that one of their own, very talented players, is leaving them.
It's just the grim reality of professional sport.

I really hope that Murphy stays though

If Saints have approached him which is very doubtful as he is on contract and in theory cannot approach until May. Clubs can let the unseetling be done by the media which appears to be the ongoing issue here.

If Murphy stays beyond his current contact all well and good , if not we move on without him .we simply Cannot be held ransom by anyone especially in this financial/economic downturn that the country is facing . If the lad is adamant he wants away I’d be tempted to sell him rather than let him walk for nothing at the end of his contract ,no good having anyone at the club if they see their future elsewhere . We’ll never be in a position to keep players when the big clubs flash the cash , but I’d much rather the club be on a financial footing than paying contracts beyond our means no matter who it is , including Murphy . As I look at ,it if he goes it gives someone else a chance to stake a claim .

Players come and players go. I remember when Neil Fox left for Bradford and how sick I felt. Murphy who has only played a few games is a promising winger but he's no Neil Fox, we'll move on without him.

It’s not a secret that St Helens have been after him since he scored a bagful of tries against them at their place and his reported refusal to sign a new contract would suggest he wants the bigger club and higher profile games. He may also have looked at TJs career and decided he doesn’t want to spend five years being a big fish in a small pond. He’s also a Huddersfield lad who’s only been with Trinity for about 3 years so there’s no massive emotional loyalty to deal with on his part

Given the current strength of the wing position and assuming Sts want him now, I’d take a transfer fee and let him go

The only thing the club needs to concentrate on is staying in Super League because failure to do so would be a disaster despite what some might hope. When the new IMG ratings come into effect being out of SL would mean that we will lose a major benefit because we may have a partly developed ground but I am sure the current SL clubs will be favoured whatever they may say.
The only way to give us the best chance is to have the best available squad. We can be prudent with our finances which is laudable but sometimes you need to loosen the purse strings because the club need to weigh the loss of income from being relegated. I believe that relegation will also make all contracts void so the 25 years we have survived in SL will be wasted and our chances of getting a license will go with it.
With regards Murphy we need to look at the big picture he is young and like TJ an indication of our determination to progress. I wonder what happened to the “why should I leave Trinity” when TJ was asked if his ambitions would be better fulfilled at another club.

To show ambition the club need to tie down Murphy imo. He’s a hot property and it would show a statement of intent if we can persuade him to stay. HKR have been doing this with their younger players and these are the kind of players you build a squad around. Obviously he’s nowhere near a 100k player yet but he’s worth investing in because his talent is unreal, I believe he’ll surpass Johnstone I honestly think he’s that good
