Quote: MOPSEY LIVES ON "the way we play the backs run the ball in more than our forwards, I thought we got it badly wrong sending senior and Walker in they are simply too light, game enough but just no power, Arun deal is a bit bigger'"

He is bigger but for me that isn't the issue, the issue is insisting on having Senior et al running it out from their own line when the opposition are set, it is complete madness imo. Fair enough if we are further up the pitch or the opposition aren't set but when it's turned over 5 yards from the line for us to repeatedly use him to bring it out against their pack is just setting him (or indeed any winger) up to fail unless they are built like Ryan Hall.

Sorry I do not get it ,and I have watched the game for 68 years .please explain what might have happens different if he had played instead of Bill or Lynn .Please do not say when Bill made the break in the second half with the 2 men inside him, Joe Arendal would not have got so far upfield .Lynn got two great passes away to his winger one resulted in a try ,the second pass was very unlucky to be called a forward pass .J A is big and I would like to see given a runout in the second row

There's no point him going into the second row though it's the area we have the most depth in and he's a centre so why change that, it's bad enough that Chester seems to be trying to convert Crowther (a more than able back rower) into a hooker, when his dominant skill set is elsewhere.

Got some sympathy with this, am totally sick and tired of watching opposing wingers being given a free run in and it happened twice with Senior. Arundal feeds his winger well and not many gets past him.

In my time I've seen some bizarre rants regarding the status of players but this one has me in hysterics.

Now I'm a huge Arundel fan, always have been, unlike those who've suddenly made him the messiah of centres, the best since Neil Fox it would seem.

Well he isn't, he's the most natural centre we have and in due course will get his chance but after an ACL the coaches will be wary and as we already have two excellent centres in their own ways, why rush.

I can just about get the Hampshire obsession with some on here but Arundel, are we seriously suggesting he is the players to fix things even though he plays in a position that isn't the issue!

Soft forwards, that's our problem, Dave was poor, the rest of the props not much better, Tanginoa had his most invisible game ever (in attack) and so on.

True Senior is raw but the damage is done long before it gets to a winger, once there is an overlap there isn't much you can do. Leeds stacked that right edge, it was obvious yet nobody gets across to cover the gaps. The only players truly putting themselves about in defence were Miller, Westerman and Crowther.

Might also note that it was on the left edge, not the right where two tries were bombed.

Finally had that Ref not given a forward pass and let's be honest had it been Leeds he probably wouldn't have then we'd have possibly drawn the game in the last minute. Then we may have won it in extra time and all on here would be sunshine and light.

Get a grip, man up and move on to the next game, like the team has to do. You win some, you lose some, petulance and self-pity though is not the recipe to change anything. That is why we all stand on the terraces whilst those who can play get on with it, yes even the new messiah himself St Joe. icon_rolleyes.gif

In your opinion, which is wrong, in my opinion.

I don't mind you expressing your opinions but stating them as indisputable fact isn't on, unless you are Wayne Bennett or similar, are you Wayne Bennett or similar?

Well pointed out Vastman . What the hell is winger supposed to do when there is an overlap, Come in and take the man with the ball? Fine if he manages it. If not looks a fool, Stay on his wing and let centre or whoever to stroll in? Can’t win . The problem is created infield where tackles are missed , a ball slipped by a prop who is attracting two or more players or players are not sliding across etc.

Yep, it's not rocket science yet it seems to be too some on here.

Where defence is concerned, that is and always had been the job of the forwards. I accept that the backs now play a bigger part than they used to but the ball gets out wide too quickly when the forwards are not doing their jobs.

Ditto making yards, especially from on our own line, is also the forward's job. I don't care how big our backs are including Joe, I don't want to see them wearing themselves out running the ball all day long, occasionally yes but all the time no!

At the end of the day, it's about sharing the effort. Nobody expects Fifita to run in two lengths of the field tries, so why do we expect the backs to run the hard yards and do so much defending!

Fifita, Green etc are not expected to run great distances or make loads of last-ditch cover tackle, that is not their job. What they are expected to do is cart that ball up hard and straight and tackle anything that moves. They work in increments of 10 meters, Tom Johnstone works in increments of 100 meters. TJ is doing his 100 meters, too many of our forwards are not even getting close to 1 meter in some cases.

Ditto tackling, Dave in particular put in some dreadfully weak attempted tackles in but he wasn't alone.

I say again our forwards have gone soft, certainly our big men with the exception of Arona and occasionally Westerman. Some just about do enough and some don't.

The one great hope I have for our pack is that Battye will show the way. Not the biggest or the most gifted but he can play and above all he gets into the opposition. I can only hope his attitude eventually rubs off and where he goes others will follow.

The forwards lost us the game, the forwards lose most games in truth but in fairness, they win most games also.

Think Mr Chester and Co should watch the Panthers v Storm game to learn how to defend wide out .No players rushing out of line, eyes on the ball , and the defence moving side ways like a machine .And all done with out panic and at a slow pace
