Always said this with TJ, it is something that you see a lot in the NRL, those real special players that play in the centre or the wing usually end up becoming great fullbacks, granted in a lot of cases some of those played a lot of junior rugby at FB but there is the likes of Valentine Holmes and Billy Slater that played majority of junior grade on the wing and started first grade on the wing before moving to FB.

Be interesting although to me he looks like he could also play centre, he’s got a good pass on him

Who's gonna keep up with him to receive the pass?
Prime example was Croft being unable to back BJB up last weekend.

He's more a centre than a fullback.
Putting the fast lad at the back doesn't work any more. You got to have other skills and a lot more fitness than other positions.
For me he's an out and out winger and we should just focus on getting him good ball.

For me I see Tom as a lot more than "The fast lad"

So do I. I'm just saying, the more that I do see, is better served on the wing.
No one ever tried to move Martin Ofiiah.
FB has very different angles of running, more pressure under high ball stood still, link play with backline and managing the defense.
TJ has never had to do any of that before.
Also one of his best skills is finishing in the corner with no space. He wouldn't use that at all at fullback.
I'm sure he'd make a good go of it but why change one of your best assets?

I agree with what you are saying, but I think that quite a few Wigan fans might disagree in the case of Bevan French.

I realise all of that PT, there is a lot to the FB game, my point was when I said that I have always said that is more there was potential to try him out at FB probably slightly earlier, managing defences, linking into the attack is something that can be trained into a player, natural pace, evasion, strength is something that you cannot .Probably a little late in the day for it now but was something that I thought we should have looked at.
The finishing in the corner with no space is something that more or less every winger in the league now has in there back pocket, it has now become the norm although granted Tom is one of the best at it.

True but was thinking more into the future when the pace begins to fade.

Not strictly correct, Tom played a lot at FB as a youngster. Obviously his pace soon dictated his adult position. He could probably play FB or Centre very well given the chance. However to me he seems more than happy where he is and as they say If it ain’t broke.....

I don`t subscribe to that quote for the same reason you mention in the comment above about pace, it implies you should just wait it out until it does eventually fail before doing anything to improve it or "Fix it" - For instance a move to centre for Tom in the next couple of years would potentially prolong his career as a top level SL or even NRL player by a few years, as soon as pace starts to fade for a winger that is more or less them done at the very top of the game, in the here and now things are working well for him but who knows in a few years time we may look back and think that a big opportunity was missed.

| Still don't get why you'd want to move him from a position in which he excels. I'm sure he wouldn't be rubbish but I can't imagine he will be a better centre or fullback than he is a winger.
