Find it hard to see how we can put a deal together for Tim Smith unless its a loan deal. The player has three years of his contract left at Salford, he would have to take a massive wage cut to come to us on a permanent deal. Salford must want some sort of compensation and I do not think we would pay a transfer fee. On the plus side for us, I dont think Smith is in Salfords plans from a Rugby poit of view, I am not sure any of the Aussie clubs would make an offer for him and I can only think of Hull KR from the SL who would be looking for a 7 and I think their over seas quota is full. Fingers crossed we can work something out with Salford. If we get him we are going to need a 6 that suits his game, I would have looked us to play Sammut at 6 with Tim at 7 in the last couple of games to see what they looked like. Tim Smiths defence has been good since his return so maybe it could have worked. If we get Smith then we will need to find a 6

Tim cant stay at Salford as they have already done their budget which doesnt include him plus they are over their quota allocation so that also keeps him from staying with Salford. Also just hazarding a guess that Tim would prefer to stay with us as playing best rugby of his career. Salford cant force him elsewhere either so Tim and the club should be in a good position on this deal.

Maybe he's negotiating a severance package with Salford.

They can't force him to go elsewhere but they can offer him to someone who wants him and promises to treat him like we do for more money.

It would be foolish to think we are in the lead here. Has to be handled correctly to get the deal we want.
