| Quote: Sandal Wild Cat "It's all underhanded politics and dirty tactics from LCC IMO.
But as I said I'm as much for jobs in this area (including areas on the boarders of Leeds) as I am about sporting provisions. And would support any development of their side too.
What has really griped me in this whole process is when opposition have claimed "supporters only care about the stadium and the employment is a smokescreen"- Well no it's not, I for one love my city and want it to prosper once again. So yes I am in favour of jobs because that puts a roof over the heads of citizens and food on their tables!
And in the grand scheme of things anyone who claims some fields are more important than the benefits NM will bring should try living below the breadline for a while and see how much they're glad they have those fields!'"
Great post m8, this echos my thoughts exactly, I was born an raised in that area and on the leeds side youre right its farmed fields, our side is a old pit, it makes obvious sense which side to build on

That is definitely Council code for if they are able to build there, we have have missed out on the money these companies would have brought our many ready built empty warehouse and office units within Leeds.
Another example of the Leeds City Council unwritten policy of 'Do as I say, not as I do'. I wonder if Coun Wilson is aware of park and ride in North Leeds (that hardly anyone uses) which was built on woodland and a school field (removing some of the school's sports facilities), Or the several areas of green belt areas of North Leeds where roads were re-routed so housing developments could be built by the North Leeds Jewish Housing Association. There was also the building of the new Grammar School (also on what was green belt) If he wants to look closer to his constituency, the Thorpe Park development at Colton and the ARLA Dairy development in Rothwell (both I believe were built on green belt).
The fact is the only reason Leeds City Council even care is purely for financial reasons.'"
100% accurate. With the level of development that has been built on green belt land within the LCC constituency they are in truth very poorly situated to appeal for a public inquiry. It would be like Turkeys voting for Christmas.
I think the picture will be clearer by the end of the week.
Has anyone heard anything regarding HA? At the meeting Yorkcourt said they were "90% there", if this is resolved it is yet another positive we should be screaming from the rooftops. With the HA onside I would find it very hard to believe that this would be the first and only application to be put to a public inquiry since the Con-Dems took office.

Absolutely spot on; if we can see through the smoke and mirrors that LCC are using to couch their objections, it seems reasonable that Mr Pickles and his colleagues will be able to do the same.
Nontheless, everything remains crossed until the 28 days passes.

| Government spending policy, current opinions of senior policy-makers regarding economic regeneration and recovery, as well as current thinking of where responsibility for local planning decsions should fall...... or..... The LCC's paper thin argument of encroachment veiled over a sentiment of regret that they "didn't get in first".
In which direction do you think the governments favour will fall? I think I know.

Is it possible to comment on that article on the page?
One thing that has just struck me is that the LCC are no opposed to the stadium (which is to be built on green belt) but strongly opposes the industrial units, which are on sites designated for employment by our council.
Can you imagine the reaction if any council told the LCC how to structure their economic plans??
I for one think that the LCC have long dreamt of the day when they bring Wakefield and our 5 towns under their wing. Taking away our only sporting team IMO is a big step to removing what's left of our civic pride and loyalty to the Merrie city. Making it all so much easier for us to stomach when they come to take over!
As Chartlon Heston once said "Over my cold, dead body!".

He actually said, "From my cold, dead hands" (in reference to proposed gun controls in the USA) but the sentiment remains the same!

| What can I say; I was nearly there.
Not bad to say he's at the opposite side of the spectrum to me.

| The more I read this the more I think this is a blatant attempt to undermine our independence as a city.
If they have the power to veto any decision that WMDC essentially makes a giant attempt in futility.
Boxy your city needs you; get your armour on and fight our cause- If we become part of the LCC your out of a job!

That's what I thought, but the report talks of Mr Pickles making his decision within the next month, when in reality there should only be around 18 days?
