| I remember the 1979 semi final like it was yesterday, two great teams, exciting match, drama for the full 80 minutes. Before the game I was gutted because the great Bill Ashurst had not recovered from a knee injury and he was the type of player who could lead us to victory over a great Saints team. What a team we had, how good a player was Keith Smith, or Lampy or Trevor Skerret or John Burke or Graham Idle or Toppo, not to forget the Rayne twins, Alan McCurrie, Steve Diamond, Brian Juliffe, Les Sheard, Fletch, Trvor Midgely, Steve Tinker, Paul Macdermott. The lads won it without Ashurst. I remember the final hooter going and our Chairman Trevor Woodward, who was not a small man vaulting out of the directors box, leaping over the seats, hurdling the pitch side wall and doing some sort of a mad jig on the pitch with the lads. Happy days.
I seem to remember going to Saints to watch Darren Fritz make his Trinity debut and thinking ... bloody hell we have signed a good one. Not sure but he may have scored a try down the right side from 30 yards out of a short ball from Belly. That said this could have been a dream.

| The 79 semi final was without doubt the most exciting game of rugby league I've ever witnessed as a Wakefield fan. I remember that feeling, stood behind the sticks with the majority of the Wakey fans, with just a few minutes left to play and the ball deep in the Wakefield half. Glum faces and that sinking feeling all around. Everyone thought we'd blown it. Then, in the space of a few seconds, the depths of despair gave way to a euphoria the like of which I've never witnessed since, as we cheered Andy Fletch over the line. No one had a voice left in them when the final whistle went. Tears of happiness, joy beyond compare.
We had a really good team then, a really really good one. The future looked bright. But what did we know....?

What was the lighting like??
I remember the win at Barnsley, also the win in 2000 when all the 'superstars' refused to play. We put the kids and 'has beens' out, Ellis, Westwood, Fisher etc who were getting paid on a you play we pay basis and beat them.

| Oakwell! It was almost like playing in a semi or a final, it being on a neutral venue and having a cracking atmosphere. I remember there being a number of people sat next to those giant inflatable aliens wearing Trin jerseys to make the crowd look larger for Sky and there being an horrendous pre-match and and half time band.
Oh aye most of the team shaved their heads for the match. Brunker's try. The Marches destroyed Saints that day if I remember rightly. Stott scored the winning drop goal with a few minutes left, right? Kenworthy running the ball up in the last minute, taking a soft tackle and then tried to run the clock down by playing dead. One of the Saints tried to picked him up by his jersey to tell him to play the ball, but Kenworthy went all floppy limbed and 'unconscious'.

| The Oakwell game was a fantastic occasion and a superb victory for the Trinity. St Helen's were unbeaten in 10 or 11 games and everyone fully expected Andy Kelly's Wakefield team to be soundly trashed by the superstars of Sts.
I genuinely believe that the Trinity spirit that we all are so proud of today was kindled that night, our backs to the wall, written off by everybody, outgunned, outclassed, left with nothing else for our indomitable resilience we came out fighting as if our existence depended on it and won the game.
That sort of backs to the wall performance is now our trademark and most of the teams in the league are wary of the Wildcats when they look down and out.

i remember marchy stealing the ball off a bemused chris joint as he ran off the score the try that imho sent on way to victory (OK Scotts drop goal) but thats what i think.

SL/SKY said Bell Vue was not up to standard and made us play at Oakwell.
