| Quote: TRB "Second home game - v Wire 27th Feb.
For the programm article - anyone have any abiding memories of games against Wire?
The Brett Ferres pass? The Phil Eden try? The Marchy trip???? Bobby's game?
Always enjoyed the games against Wire as I've never gone into a game (except for the last Wilderspool game) where I didn't think both sides had a chance - this one being no-exception (at this stage anyway - when we only have 3 first teamers left by then it might be different!).
So go on, share the best memories on here, and remember, these may appear in the match-programme - with credits offered of course!
i forget the year but i remember being at the wilderspool when Ged Byne intercepted in the last minute to win it for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| 1st game at HWJ with JD at fb and had a shocker, but never looked back since
When bobby goulding who was performing poorly in the games prior to the one at wilderspool when he went head to head with alfie langer and totally controlled the game and outshun langer, unfortunately he never re-produced that level of performance again.

| 21-22 - four dubious penalties in Wakey's half from Klown (if I remember rightly), four tries as a direct result. Absolutely sickening.
Briers missing the penalty conversion and loosing Warrington the match in the final minute at HWJ. Brilliant game that. Solo put Atkins through early doors? The game was really tight in the last twenty. Trin managed to keep Fatfilli out on a couple of very close occasions when Briers put the chip in the corner for him. Very tense match. Did Jefferies get the last try? I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life after Briers missed that kick.
A game from when I was a young 'un always sticks out in my mind, but I can't remember which season it was. I think it was the first Friday evening Sky match I had been to and Trin had gone round all the schools giving out free kids tickets, so there seemed to be about 13,000 kids in the ground. I remember it being very close and quite brutal and the we won 12-10... If anyone can correct me on that please do.

| The opening day game and a 18 14 win with Mark Graham and Steve Ella making debuts
1980 a home game and a 24 17 win with Keith Smith playing stand off in an injury hit team leading 18 0 after 18 minutes Smith was class that day
1979 away Keith Smith turned in a great hattrick performance but we lost

| The last game we played at Wildespool although we were losing we had them on the back foot. I forget who it was but from just under the sticks' somebody dived over, the ingoal judge gave it from 4ft and old tango man
with the bald head the touch judge disallowed it from 30 metres' away. they were out on their feet and if that had stood imo we would have beaten them that day.

That game finished 52-12. I don't think we were ever gonna win it.
I do remember that someone pulled up in the warm up (same as at Leeds) resulting in Rob Spicer playing on the wing (I think).
Wire were not going to lose that game!

| Anyone remember the cup quarter final around 1980/81 with Alan Agar playing?
I remember going on the supporters bus, getting into the ground at the away end (it was segregated that day) and there were a bunch of Wires at the back of the stand. A 'charge' ensued and the Wire fans legged it to the front of the Bevan stand, just past the stewards, from where they exchanged 'banter' with the Wakey fans for the rest of the game.
We lost a tight game, but I don't remember the score.

| The last game at Wilderspool I thought we got hammered. One player pulled out of the game at the last minute (can't recall his name, he was from Feth and his brother was a international); anyhow Rob Spicer had to be 'called up' and he played on the wing and was chasing shadows for a lot of the game.
Weren't we the last team to play at W'pool and the 1st to play at the new place (along with Warrington that is). In that opening game wasn't it the one where Ben J went to feed a scrum in their 20 and their prop knocked the ball out of his hand and the ref allowed 'play on' - one against the head!
One of the games at W'pool that I remember (I think!) is B Goulding's best moment for us (except when he played in that game for Salford ). He was just coming back from a spell out and it was a scorching hot day, he was clearly not fit and he put the ball in the scrum, picked it up again, dummied and went half the length of the pitch, scoring under the sticks.
IIRC

I will have to take your word for it if you say it was 52-12 but when we had that try disallowed the score was pretty even and as they seemed to be out on their feet it looked like we could/would go out and win it.

| Back in 1962 we played Wire in the Challenge Cup.I was in the RAF based at Finningley and drew the short straw for "stand by" on the day of the match, which meant staying on station and doing absolutely nothing. As k.o. time approached I grew more and more frustrated until I finally cracked, jumped on my motorbike and went AWOL.
The match had the makings of a cracker, as apart from being a cup tie it was also a personal match between Neil Fox and Jim Challinor for a centre spot in the GB side.
We all enjoy an "end to end thriller" and that is exactly what the two teams gave us. Trinity took the game 40-18 with big Neil running in four tries and winning his personal battle.
After the match I climbed on my bike which "expired" half way to Finningley. Fortunately a friendly copper stopped and cleared the fault, enabling me get back to camp in time to "book out".
Was it worth it? you bet.

Was that on Grandstand? I remember going to Wilderspool and I think my dad got some tickets from somewhere and we sat in the stand. Before the game we walked round the stand and we saw Eddie Waring coming out of the bbc portacabin he must have been commentating on the game. If it was 1981 I was 8, so that could be correct.

| The match we started really well in 2007, at a time when we would typically wait to go behind by 20 or so points before staging a massive comeback. That time though we went 10-0 up very early on, defended like men posessed and it was a thriller of a game. Atkins scored the second try and got a chance to put his "RIP Tony Kenny" bandage in the face of the cameras. And finally, we went about 3 scores behind with 15 minutes to go, and with the match having been a see-saw the whole time the Wire crowd (or at least those near me) thought it had finally swung in their favour. Cue their dropping the ball straight from kick-off and us scoring repeatedly to win the game. Not that the video ref (Thaler?) didn't try to even things out by disallowing Wayne Price's blatant try from Fa'afili's fumble.
Got home exhausted from the rollercoaster (what's new there?!), but very happy!

| 75... Trevor Skerrett racing 60 meters for a try...
76... Paul O'Brien taking a 50 metre interception
78... Bill Ashurst's home debut
The Ashley Klien inspired Wolves comeback.
John Player semi when Bob Eccles was the difference between the teams
Mike Gregory taking the wee wee out of Ray Price at Wilderspool
1980 Challenge Cup Quarter... very scary coming out of Warrington on the supporters bus.
