Spot on, how many of these people have seen him play. He was not the star of the Acadamy team except in his mind. Worse when we played Hunslet he was simply blown away. At what point anyone could imagine this player as an international in two years time simply beggars belief.
No disrespect to the Marches but if you can't at least compete with these two old stagers in a friendly then I'd give up, those two were taking the mick.
I don't bag ex players as a rule (apart from scully) and I'm not going to write Southerwood off completely but no way will he ever be an International (England) player, not unless he has a total transformation under McNamara and how ulikely is that

| cain played at smawthorne, kieron played a year above his age at stanley. if jk gets him playing right then kh is quality, hes tough and fast and bradford had high hopes of him. he wanted to sign for us but because he fancied a change of scholarship at 15 pete riding wouldnt go back for him. very petty. cain got offered a big deal for a young kid he didnt want to sign it, he doesnt like being told what to do end of.

Trinity fans live in a fantasy world where nothing ever goes right and we are always victims. They use silly terms like "gem" and "international" without any evidence. Yet they seem incapable of accepting that the club did the right thing and got rid of a player for the exact reason you give. It was our choice, end of.

Got to agree. All we've lost is potential. That applies to any 17 year old kid at a SL club. If they didn't have potential they wouldn't be at a SL club. I would have like to see him fulfil that potential in a Trinity shirt but I'll back the coaching staff on this one.
The Championship and amateur ranks have plenty of players who were 'world beaters' at 17.

| I back Tony Drury all day long, if he felt we can do without then so be it. May argue otherwise.... TBH key position in halves, how likely are we to be able to pay the wages of a top quality english half? None, Brough going exemplifying (brought back from lower league, makes impact and command propar wage), it will always be the case we have to take a quota place to fill this. Cain is never going to be, in my opinion a top quality half, hope he does but can't see it. too many in his generation better than him. therefore cover at fb is more sensible. IMO.

| I disagree with vasty on the point of him not being the star in the academy team from last year. In many of the games I saw he was clearly head and shoulders above a lot of players and time and again his class showed, to say otherwise is a bit disrespectful to me. Wildie is another very good halfback who also stood out but still a way behind Cain IMO although still with plenty of potential to be as good if not better. Annekin was the other potential superstar and if I had to choose one I'd hope we could keep it would be Annekin.
No problem at all with the decision though, because despite the obvious potential he's still some way off being ready for Super League with his size and frame and it's blatantly obvious there's a real bad attitude. Both from what's been said on here and the quotes from him in the press his attitude is awful and to get rid is the correct call IMO.
Lets put our faith and effort into lads who want to play for us...

Perhaps, but if Cain goes on to break into the Bulls first team and proves to be a success, of which in time I sure he will, we will be kicking ourselves. In a similar way to us signing Atkins. Shame Cain has this problem with his attitude, all it will do is halt his success as a professional rugby player, A la Brough.

| I've been really enjoying the Reserve grade games this year - but I can't find a team sheet for love n'or money, and obviously the lads don't have their names on their shirts.
Could someone give me an idea of names and numbers please?

its one of the things the club needs to address as small as it is
academy U20s game on tomorrow afternoon

Have you!
If you have they are from a few years ago when he was starting out, since then he has not progressed at all IMO.
However it's not about my opinion, it's about the opinion of those who really know the score - the coaching staff. If you were as clued up as you like to suggest you'd know it was what they wanted, and that says it all.

How the heck is it. That is your opinion and that's fair enough. I have reached mine based on what people who I respect have told me.
What I do know is that when he played the big boys of Hunslet he was nowhere to be seen. For me it's these step up games where names are made and he didn't. It's one thing being good against kids it's whole other world with the mister. Sadly I can't see Cain there any time soon.
But hey, if anyone can turn him around McNamara can
