Quote vastman="vastman"Throwing beer cans is cowardly so I agree.
I'm less convinced on chase/attack/intimidate, there is a certain ambiguity here. You can enter the field and confront the ref due to frustration, it's wrong but understandable, certainly in Kirkpatrick's case and perhaps deserves a season ban so long as the Ref was not physically assaulted. All things are relative and personally, I detest blanket judgements, it's a cop-out, all cases in law are treated individually. Running on and punching the Ref is tempting but that IMO is a genuine life time ban.'"
I realise this is a bit off topic but as we are here talking about refs.....
I can accept that there are other options rather than banned for life for entering the field but abusing the ref or any players is a big no from me. Doesn't matter how upset you are. Its inappropriate. Stick to shouting from your seat if you really feel the need.
You can't "enter the field to confront the ref"
There are too many incidents of people getting injured, from the ref in the South African RU game to Monica Seles being stabbed. You can't wait to see what happens. Its just a rule.
These are the current stadium rules from our website:
"Unauthorised persons are forbidden from entering the field of play, unless advised to do so in an emergency. Any person entering the field of play without permission may be charged with aggravated trespass and will be banned from the Stadium."
You can be in prison for up to 3 months for aggravated trespass.
