| Back in the day Brett Ferres was probably the forwards equivalent of Greg Eden. Plenty of positive input but always prone to the regular brain fart. Last couple of seasons though he is just a liability to his team.
Remember Ferres, Rooney and Atkins, as Trinity players, all winning man of the match awards in three separate games for England in a tournament against the likes of Fiji, Samoa and somewhere else over that way.

| Quote: jools "Agents are the scourge of the Earth in some respects- many aren’t really looking out for the player just looking at the size of their cut- but SMTM do seem to be better than most at looking after their players.
For a player It’s a short career and they come away from that career in their mid 30s with bodies that need procedures usually only carried out on 70 year olds. It’s a job- and much as fans usually only have one loyalty to one club, it’s unlikely fans show that same loyalty to their own employer when it comes to getting a better salary for doing the same thing!
Very very poor form owners discussing contract negotiations on a fans forum.
Imagine the clubs response if the player did this.
Would imagine if the lad sees that it will help make up his mind. Cheers.'"
Agree re agents.
as far as players having short careers is concerned, it isn't a career at all is it, it something they know from the start off is a short term fling with a sport they love.
In one respect they are very lucky to be paid for doing something they love, but they surely know from the outset it's not for life! The smart ones prepare for life after RL, so that - 'it's a short career, grab what you can while you can' - doesn't wash with me. lots of people have to changes careers and get on with it.
As for discussing contracts on this forum, I don't think any details have been given to cause concern from anyone including MC.
Frankly, I'm a bit bored now with will he sign won't he sign. I'd like him to, but if he doesn't we will move on won't we.

| I’d love to know how you all know so much about agents, the job they do and their motives. You’d be surprised what some have done for their clients. This isn’t football where an agent gets a cut of massive transfer fees and the like. Yes there’s some money involved, would you work for free? However the money isn’t massive amounts at all.

There's money in drug dealing and people trafficking but most people prefer to earn an honest crust.

Nah. Just saying there are thousands of ways to EARN a living where you graft and toil and reap the rewards you deserve.
Then there are a some easy money ways that milk honest people in a sort of parasitic way.

| Would you see an agent encourage a player on his books to play for what he would call "A good team". or would he encourage him to sign for a club offering more money? I think I know the answer.

You’re right mate. Who needs agents. I have no doubt that a professional sports team with in house legal teams etc wouldn’t try and pull a fast one with a young up and coming lad.

Who do you think the player would want to sign for?
Example:
2 year contract with saints on 60k a year
3 year contract with wakey on 80k a year

| No issue with players having professional representation as most are not the brightest and could be taken advantage of. However, I feel agents should be centrally employed and in no way whatsoever financially benefit from negotiating their clients contracts. That way they can only be acting in the interest of the player rather than their own bank balance.

| Quite a few agents in RL also have football players on their books and are involved in multi million pound deals with them believe it or not but it’s fact. So I’m afraid the RL player is playing second fiddle, what an agent gets out of a RL players deal, I’m afraid is a drop in the ocean so they don’t pursue the players interest as vigorously as a big deal elsewhere, trust me on this one, I’ve been there.

Yeah! The point I was trying to make super was that you're not going to find an agent who would say to a client, "Go to Team X, because they're a good, middle of the road club with a decent set of blokes" rather than him say go to Team Y because they're offering £20,000 more than any other club.
