| Quote: wrencat1873 "No way Ketty.
These days, loose forward is equivalent to a ball playing prop forward and they need to do heaps of graft in the middle,
Gaskills is a long way from being that player.
He can play in most of the positions in the backs but, let's not shove him at the back of the pack just to have him on the field.
In a way, he is the new Hampshire for us and there are better players in each of the positions that he can cover.
Obviously, if someone is injured he should get the gig and then show that he is the man for the job.
Miller & Lino have been going great and if they are fit, they have to be our halves.'"
Lol wrencat Gaskill is to slow to play in the backs he could not get across against Wigan to cover .Some are on about playing him in pack That would weaken the pack big time .Who would he replace JC, Batch,.To take out one of the other forwards out would give us a light pack .And J C and Batch do a lot of tackling No, just play him when we got to

| So according to most on here, Gaskell can neither play in the backs or the forwards, because he's too slow, can't defend etc, etc?! He's not done bad then for a supposed injury prone player to have clocked up over 200 appearances, scored over 80 tries and kicked 50 goals! It's incredible really that now Miller is the best thing since sliced bread now, not so long back he was public enemy no.1.........

| I think they both (Miller and Gaskell) individually have there own strengths that outweigh each other to be honest, Miller is elusive, a running threat, tackles hard, Gaskells kicking game is far better than Millers and I think he shows a lot more composure than Miller does at times when its needed, both have decent passing games. I`d rather we have Miller on the field overall as I think he compliments Lino more than Gaskell but I don`t think there is actually much in them, just alters our approach slightly.

Simple question to you, no Miller on Thursday night do you think that Gaskell's game against Wigan warrants him being dropped for the Cas game.

Exactly, it's the same for every player, pros and cons. I just think Gaskell could be the Scott Grix on here, if he's mediocre and we win, nothing much will be said, if we lose he will more than likely get the most flak! We all have our personal choices for some positions, it's what makes forums interesting isn't it, differing points of view. Personally I thought Crowther was outstanding in the league game at Warrington playing 13, I don't think he's started there since?! I would go for Miller myself, but apart from Walker then Gaskell is the obvious choice for stand-off.

| Thought Gaskell was excellent the other day for the most part…he maybe dropped a bit 2nd half but you’ve got to give him the benefit of the doubt as it was a real intense game and his first game back after only 1 reserve outing…he needs match fitness!
I’ve no problem with his defence at all…first half he stopped Bateman numerous times, just like I said, 2nd half he was probably feeling it. He’s a creator though and not in the team for his tackling…funny how folk will call him for missing the odd one but no mention of Pitts or Crowther two of the best tacklers we have missing key one on ones that led to try’s!
In his two appearances so far Gaskell has shown he will be a real asset this season without a doubt…a very good creative player…

Yes is defence is very bad We had two 19 year old backs on that side .Gaskell could not help them out at all .Would play Walker there .

Please no.
Edit - Just seen the squad, so he'll be alongside Mase again then.....

| Gaskell went OK for me, whilst we never really looked like scoring off the kicks they helped us build lots of pressure and if we're singling out players for not being able to tackle he would be well down the list.
Ultimately, the best team won on Sunday. We had set after set in the first half without having the class to capitalize whereas Wigan made the most of their 2 or 3 chances. 2nd half we couldn't live with them across the park and whilst we didn't deserve the last couple of scores
And as for the old 'give XYZ player a run at 9/13'...... Liam Kaye was OK at 9 as last resort cover in an emergency but there is much, much more to the position than quick feet carrying from dummy half 3 times every 2 sets and the same goes for LF.

A bit harsh on Kay.
Defence is good, distribution off the floor excellent and as you suggested, he can certainly spot flat footed defence to make quick metres.
The fact that we omly have Hood as an out and out hooker, with Bowes in the background, would suggest that WP is happy with Kay as an interchange hooker.

Yes. He is the exception to the 'give xyz a go'.
For me Kay is formally training as, and regarded long term as a hooker and a winger. He's not cover.

Totally don't agree, we have missed Kay at 9, he's as good as Hood any day.

Agree ok on the wing better at 9 .Would be in my 17 all the time as interchange hooker if we could get Murphy on is wing .Like Bowes a lot but Kay is older and should take the hits better from the oppositions
