| If I remember correctly, the Secretary of State implied it would be a community stadium, with Wakefield Trinity as anchor tenants.

Correct but the keyword is tenant. Like all tenants we never own it but so long as we pay our rent we get to live in it. However although we are the key tenant we will have to accept lodgers, that’s how the deal works. Without that we have no more right to public money than anyone else ie none at all.
It’s a trade off and we mustn’t forget that.

The petition, that massively helped secure the green light for the NM development was signed by several thousand "non Trinity" folk, who wanted to see a Community Stadium and facilities built for the people of Wakefield.
It certainly wasn't (and isn't) just about Wakefield Trinity.

There is only one issue: the best way to secure a stadium. In our case, that means having a community stadium that is available for use by Wakefield United or anyone else able to use it. Our only stipulation appears to be that we are allowed to keep the receipts of all game-day income, as that is the only way to grow.
Or we could make a stand on a point of principle, that it is our fight so our stadium, and look forward to Championship rugby in Dewsbury.

| Part of me wonders if they even want sport in the Wakefield District at all, to be honest - unless it's privatized. Closing of pay as you play council run sport and golf courses, fishing, tennis courts etc. I know this is part of the budget cuts, but with the community stadium fiasco aswell as the loss of the districts other sporting teams over the years - it makes you wonder.

But if it's the best way to secure a stadium, you do it, because the best way is the best way. Why would you adopt a way that is less likely to achieve what you want?
It's also noting that even if it was exclusively ours, we'd probably let Wakefield United play there anyway. If you'd watched the Saints game on Friday, you'll have noticed football markings. Football teams have used Belle Vue before. It really is a non-point.

No offence, but you are talking out of the thing you sit on.
The "Community Stadium" is exactly that. There would be other facilities there that can be used by everyone - your blinkered view of "It should belong to Wakefield Trinity" is short sighted and quite frankly - embarassing.
It would also generate revenue streams from all the facilities at the stadium site and may generate further interest in our proud club with further fans coming through the gate.

I have to say, apart from signing the petition, going to one hearing and talking about it here I have done nothing to help.
Can I still go watch Trinity if they eventually get this stadium?
I'm assuming you have been much more active than me considering you are designated bouncer for anyone else wanting to use it?

No one just steps in. The stadium will be run by the Trustees. Any other sports organisation, private functions etc, would pay the stadium trust for use of the stadium and it’s facilities. The revenue this could generate may be sizeable, and it may well be the reason SRW wants to set up a rival trust. Sometimes the £ signs bring in a lot of undesirable attention.
