I like that bit where he said we snatched a win in the last minute, snatched being the operative word when Sam Obst had the ball illegally nicked off him, poor as the floodlights were you couldn't fail not to see it. Lets hope they get Richard Agar in with Webbo as his assistant it's what the club and it's fans deserve.

How ridiculous! They've got half a team out for goodness sake. No coach in the world can do the business with half his regular team missing. Like others have said I hope they give it to Agar.

It is ridiculous I agree - and the ultimate question is "who could have done better than him over the last 12 months?"

Finshed 9th and went unbeaten in the middle 8's
Challenge cup finalists
Had no investment into the playing squad and decimated by injuries - yet still drew opening game v Cas (good result I'd say) ran Warrington reasonably close away, and almost beat wakefield with half a team sidelined

Really bizarre decision considering this squad WILL NOT make the top 8 - not enough depth or quality to do so, as Sunday's result proved (no offence guys - but if it was good enough then Wakefield at home was a must-win)

I fully expect to see someone of the absolute elite lined up to dramatically alter their expectations this year..........

I think most Wakey fans are still haunted by the pair of them.

I wouldn't wish Richard Agar on anyone even Cas and Leeds. Well, maybe Huddersfield, and possibly Leigh.

Agar had to build a squad from scratch and made the 8 . Then had to build another shopping at a discount shop . Webbo was given the job way too early just as Powell was with Leeds . Now look who is the best coach in superleague

Although Powell didn't last too long as Leeds coach, his situation probably shows that it is far better for young, aspiring coaches to ply their trade outside the top flight and then take on a SL club when they have "perfected" the art of coaching.

Far too many ex players start coaching at the top level only to drop down one or two divisions and then they return and are massively improved. Powell is a good example of this.

Also, when a player is given the top job, straight from playing for that team, it usually falls a bit flat and perhaps Cunningham, at Saints, falls into this category.

Webster has the makings of a decent coach but, Wakefield on a shoestring budget wasn't the time or place for him, although, when he took over from Agar, he certainly improved performance and of course, started last season ok. He just struggled when we began losing and made some bad errors along the way. Like writing the regular season off, after less than half the games had been played.
It's fair to say that, he wouldn't do that again.

Firstly I was stood near Chester at the MPG and he was celebrating as much as anyone when we won.

I think Agar got far too much stick, yes it went a bit wrong towards the end when finance issues became a problem but in the one season where he got a fair run he took us to the playoffs with a squad put together late and with the lowest budget in the league at the time.

Chester shouldn't have got the job in the first place.

I don't know whether he is the guy to eventually replace Smith. Maybe he is.
He should go through the same process anyone else does to get that chance.
If the only credentials are that he is local then I might apply.
