| Agree with above posts. Sykes is a very astute signing IMO. He is a very experienced SL player, ex-international and one of the best goal kickers in the game. If he can't tackle how come that hasn't been picked up prior to him playing to SL level and internationals? Trust those in the game that do it for a living such as R.A.
He can also play a number of positions and with Collis struggling with a groin injury over the last few weeks could slot in comfortably at centre and take the pressure off Johns at kicking. Mellars has been a little up and down I think since he's arrived (Bradford game?) and it puts pressure on those backs to perform week in week out. Its a long season and proven strength in depth is required if WTW are to progress and not run out of steam midway through the season.
Didn't Sykes goal kick WTW to death a couple of seasons ago at London Broncos?
Cockayne was being slagged off when he arrived and he's one of WTW impact players and signings of the season.
Lets judge Sykes on his performances for WTW and trust R.A. who if he carries on like this will be picked up by St.Helens. Just need a big barnstorming prop forward now.
I wonder whether Bradford with their financial problems, would be willing to sell Kopchak? One teams misfortune is another teams opportunity:

| Imagine if Sykes does take up the goal kicking mantle and misses the first couple. I can just hear the mumblings in the crowd right now! John has kicked a few goals in the last few games but can hardly reach the posts from the touchline which is why Cockayne took the one on the wing on Sunday.
Good squad signing but not first choice for me.

| Quote: Pat Bateman "Walshaw is a second rower,
Cowling is nowhere near ready for super league,
Collis seems very injury prone at the moment,
Mellars had been playing gash until the warrington game,
Get a grip its a good signing, you would be moaning if say John or Mellars got injured with no decent back up.'"
Walshaw is a centre. Sykes is not a half back hes poor there.

Strange, our coaching staff think differently about Walshaw. And Sykes had a good game at stand off for Bradford against saints a couple of weeks ago.

Richard Agar disagrees. He stated just a few weeks ago that Walshaw is a second row and not a centre as he doesn't have the pace required and he's the coach that picks the team.
I hope Sykes reads these posts and proves the doubters wrong.

Washaw isn't a centre he is a second rower. Where has he been playing all year, hhmmm second row. He hasn't got the speed to be a decent centre. He has the makings to be an outstanding second rower.

| Just read this off Wikipedia on Sykes....
Paul successfully converted during 2005 to the centre position where his powerful running and strong tackling are seen to their best advantage.
2005 was a record breaking year for Sykes. On 27 February against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Sykes kicked 12 goals from 12 attempts to break a 17 year old London club record.
Further records for most goals and most points followed at the seasons end and in recognition of these achievements Paul was voted Supporters Player of the Year for 2005. Harlequins centre Paul Sykes has confirmed his expected move to Bradford for next season on a two-year contract.
Paul Sykes made his Great Britain début in the 42-14 victory over the French on 22 June 2007, scoring one try.Sykes has also represented the England in their warm up match against Wales before the 2009 Four Nations.

I was clapping in agreement not disagreement. I believe this is a great signing, and can remember whrn we got pumped down in london. Its when Jules O'neill played for us, apparently causing trouble.

| Good signing in my opinion, based on what he can do rather than what he has sometimes done wrong. He has outstanding stats, especially kicking, which we need.
His tackling has been shown up occassionally but mainly at international level when it was a positional thing.
He is a Wakefield player now. I support him.
..............and I hope he follows the lead of Agar, Washbrook and Raleigh. Each were slagged off by the fans of the clubs they left as being rubbish signings. All have done great work at Wakefield.

'apparently' on the way down on the coach and 'apparently' a certain player getting fleeced at poker. Ahh the good old days.
