and please be careful Chissitt. We are in danger of having a normal, coherent conversation about rugby matters here. Can't say I've seen one of those on the board for a while so we may be asked to go stand in the corner again.

The only thing that proves is your club thought he was worth more than ours did.
If Fozzard was still all that it is unlikely Saints would be releasing him for a second time and it is also unlikely HKR would have flown Clinton half way around the world when the had the Superstar you have signed. I might sell my son's battered old astra to a Cas director the obviously think knackered old stuff is collectible. Fozzard might have been good at some point in his career but he has had more breaks than ITV.

| I'm happy we've managed to avoid the banana skin that is Fozzard. Emmet may well turn into quite a find for Cas although i'm surprised Saints haven't renewed his contract

Couldn't agree more. Fozzard is past it but Emmit looks like he could be a very good player in the future and i am extremely supprised that saints have let him go and that he hasn't been signed up by a bigger club.

I would at least decide who I want to get rid of and yes in some cases would let them go completely if they are not right for the club before I have a direct replacement. If you don't you can't work out how much you can afford.
Even if there was no one added there are others in the club who could fill the role so it's not like there is a risk of only putting 12 players out on the field.
What happens in the reverse if you agree to sign someone, and then the player, who is still in contract, doesn't get another club and wants to stay?
...............and of course there is a difference between being academically educated and rugby league educated. On the rugby league front I am happy that I am knowledgeable but always willing to listen and be educated further.'"
Oh go on then if you say so

Simple really, one out one in to replace him, six out six in or something along those requirements, but if you let six go without any guarantee of replacing them, then there is the likelyhood of only putting twelve players out. As you say though, it is a matter of opinions and clearly yours is the only one what counts.

Well thats academic at our club, Blanch apart everybody else was out of contract and would have had to move on anyway so assuming Kear and Co knew this, he would have had enough time to formulate his squad strengthening and acted appropriately or you would think so.
...............and of course there is a difference between being academically educated and rugby league educated. On the rugby league front I am happy that I am knowledgeable but always willing to listen and be educated further.
And you obviously think you know the difference, that being the case why dont you stop while you are losing

Saints fans seemed to think he was contracted until 2013 anyway, I havent looked into it.
And i am quite sure that the Fozzard deal is a pay as you play one, So its not such a big risk

I would also like to see win / lose pay like in the old days when players played for pride and the back pocket, as hard as the game is now its too easy to sit back
there is one problem with pay as you play, injury or lack of form ain't going to feed the family

I know absolutely shiit all about most things but if Fozzard is on a pay as you play deal i'll eat my own turd. Why on earth would he accept that and risk getting injured when he could no doubt get a proper deal elsewhere?

Because he's gone to Cas and it fits their arguement?

All pay as you play deals will have a minimum value, Could be say £20k .. And then he earns so much per game on top. Obviously the figures arent accurate, but his wage does depend on how many appearences he makes

Just out of interest if Fozzard is on a pay as you play deal as you claim, how does this fit in with the salary cap???
As you have said yourself it could be as little as £20k but there is obviously a possibility of it being so much more.

They could make the allowance for him playing ALL matches and meet the salary cap, so if he doesn't play all games, then they have money spare. I guess it is very much like someone having a basic salary and commission on top (pay as you play).

So why sign a player on a pay as you play if you are going to make provisions for playing every game? I am sorry but that makes no sense.

Why?
They have to account for it on the salary cap in case he does play every game.
If he doesn't they save some money, and are below what they predicted for cap spend.
Not sure which bit doesn't make sense.......other than signing the dinosaur in the first place
