| I think you guys need more at half back than a 33 year old centre and a 30 year old with limited SL experience.
Cream over your pack all you want, yeah it's shaped up pretty well, but you won't win very many games without quality in the halves.
Each hour that passes is an hour nearer the season and less and less will become available. Sykes and Finn would be basically sound, but painfully slow and have virtually no flair.
To say lacking pace and flair is fine as long as you kick well is a very naive way of looking at the sport. Leeds do the "5 drives and kick" game plan very well but they'd still a golden boot winner playing half back all year, cause it sounds WAAAAY easier than what it is. To think you can get Finn and Sykes to do that at the top level and "grind out results" ....well, good luck I suppose

| Bring back Finn would be as daft as bringing back Tiger handforth. Infact whilst we are in such a stupid mindset lets also consider Paul March if he's still in training.

Another expert - and I thought I was the only one
Why bag a player before he even starts - I don't get it. Further to that we have had more success with Finn type players than any other. In fact Sykes was one of those and to use your expression people were creaming themselves over him after a few games. Teams shape up in all sorts of strange ways.

why do you persist on thinking people assume they're experts, just becasue they have an opinion they stand by?
I'm not an expert and don't claim to be.
And I'm not bagging him as a player, not in the slightest. I just think at 30 it'll be hard to adapt to SL level rugby. I also think it'd be easier if he had a quality stand-off to operate with, and I don't think Sykes is that.
To me Sykes and Finn wouldn't compliment each other - both are decent readers of a game from HB, and you then have a team leader and a SL veteran.
HOWEVER.... Both would make painfully slow SL half-backs, and neither have any flair. Also from what I saw in the WC, Finn's kicking game went to pieces when he played against quality opposition, so I fear your kicking game would suffer.
Not disrespecting anyone, I just think they'd be a really weak SL pairing at HB

| Its a forum, people have opinions, you can choose to ignore who you wish. Otherwise we may as well shut up shop.

| Quote: vastman "Because you're not expressing it as an opinion in this case - it's an assumption which you can only really have if your an expert or a clairvoyant.
I just can't see how people like you and others can talk with such authority and sureness about a circumstance you have virtually no knowledge of, and that applies to me, you, Jack in the Box and all.
We don't know the players, train them and know the team dynamics so why people are so quick to condemn I just don't get.
It's like me asking a mechanic to tell me what's wrong with my car from a photo it's that daft IMHO. You can have an opinion on a player but for me you can't claim to know whether he will succeed or fail.
Maybe it's me and I overvalue professionals and under value the ability of forum members
And I didn't say one way or the other.
To satisfy your first paragraph...... It is my opinion that they won't compliment each other at half back due to (in my opinion, from what I have seen) their lack of pace, flair, and kicking against quality opposition.
I may be right I may be wrong, either way I will tell you, or rather you can tell me, in September
As for speaking with authority, I honestly honestly HONESTLY think it's the tone which you take in your head when reading other's posts.
We are all guilty of thinking we are experts of rugbly league. Ultimately top level coaches aren't right 100% of the time, and it'd be a very bad one who would assume so.

| Heard we are also talking to Dave Wrench to see if he fancies another season. He used to run well off Liam Finn the last time they were both at the club. This was also on twitter so it must have some truth in it.

| Pace isnt everything in the halves....getting a combination that work together behind a strong pack is key for me.....call Sykes a 33 centre all ya like Dave but he has been a class 6 for us....a very underated player and one you dont appreciate fully until you see him week in week out doing all the little things right....a far, far better playet than i thought he was before we signed him......having said that....Finn wouldnt be for me....although he could surprise like sykes has......think we also need to pray sykes stays injury free.....

| Honesty pal I aren't knocking either player - I just think as a pairing it wouldn't work. Their attributes don't seem to blend very well, that's not to say they don't have any.
As I say, I do think you need a degree of pace and flair in the halves, and as a pair I think that'd be their shortfall.
Again, that's not to say they're poor in their positions individually.
I don't think I'm getting my point across very well here

If you want to spend time getting your point across why not choose a subject with some credibility rather than peddling a stupid rumour.

You don't rate them Dave, nowt wrong with that viewpoint, I don't imagine as a half back pairing they're top of most Trinity supporters list either but if that's thats what we end up with so be it.
