Bens dad was Pete, he played for lock lane and was a Cas fan. i can remember Ben some times wore Wakey tops when he came training but that was a long time ago and Means nothing now.

Who he supports or doesn't support is all irrelevant. He's a professional ref - there's no way he would jeopardise his career and reputation ( which I would say is one of the better ones) by being bent. I wasn't at the match but I bet that, looking at the video, he got most decisions right. It's just the nature of RL fans - my team lost, the ref must be biased.

I think in the last two seasons, he's become the best ref in SL; has a good rapport with the players, maintains respect and crucially, is not easily old-manned; listen to how he takes the when they fling themselves on the floor or try to milk a penalty. Sure I heard him say to one of the Leeds players last week, "Are you back - I thought you were dead!"

I don't think many Widnes fans are blaming the ref - just the one numpty who spewed up all over this board and has now disappeared.

Thats the good bit about the refs being miked up, you can hear the banter and Thaler is very good at it and it lightens the mood

For a number of years I've thought Thaler is the best ref whether in our game or any other team's game. Roby is by far the worst I've seen and his bizarre/biased (?) decision making baffles and infuriates me.

I thought Thaler had a good game on Friday. On the night I only queries one decision where he awarded a knock on against us in the 1st half when I thought Widnes were interfering in the play the ball.

After watching the video I now have a second. I think it is something like 5:46 in the Wakefield video channel highlights where you can clearly see the Widnes player rolls the ball back towards their own player. Thaler incorrectly awards them a penalty accusing us of stripping the ball. That was for the kick Tickle missed and could have won the game. I dare say if Tickle had kicked that one the outcome would be different.
