| Re: Chester out part 65 : Sat May 15, 2021 6:02 pm
One thing is for sure whoever is in charge next year they have to be recruiting now or if left will be asked to have players they haven't been party to recruiting.
so either back C.C
or make a decision.
Or be left with players no other club want.
POSTED 15-05-2021
In response to the current position the club find itself in just wished to post these observations.
Firstly, to make it clear that the board under Michael Carter or indeed John Minard has my full support that doesn’t mean that people who support the club unconditionally cannot have the right to express their opinion and views on firstly how the club was run historically or indeed their views on the future.
To that end if we revue how we find ourselves with the current squad and its obvious deficiencies this has to come down to recruitment last year or the lack of it.
This was due to the financial position of the club as we have been told.
Uncertainty of staying in the topflight which can and did result in paralysis.
But judgment on players in the past with just as much if not worse that the current financial position of the club proved that this can be achieved.
its easy to make retrospective judgments and can be seen to be unfair but if we don’t learn from past mistakes that is a great error.
As the heading says “Where are we now” which would seem to be we are relying on the stadium to be the hope of future success both in the IMG proposal and with it generating more income ( this can never be guaranteed)
The second hope is the white knight version which has been a failure for 50 years .
So, the question is and more importantly “what we do now”
Choices are we do nothing this season rely on the current squad and hope we don’t get relegated this justifies past decisions and if it works then relative success for now in the hope of not finishing bottom
Second option brave decisions are made “with no guarantee of success” but excepting past mistakes in not getting together the squad that won’t get relegated. This would mean decisions on both the playing side and possible coaching side and with a likely increase in cost more than just doing nothing of circa 500k and decision making by personnel to be reviewed.
This has to be taken in the light of what relegation loss of income would have on the club as against expenditure now.
Crisis problems and downward spirals can some time bring the very best out of people once hope is provided'.So where are we now'
As one who lives in hope who knows perhaps hope is nearer than most people think!

Top six 2005 - Trinity.: |

| Sorry but I found that a tough read.
The club have a budget to work to. This is well publicised however they are making attempts to try and rebalance the squad somewhat. There is also the issue of available players and coaches that would actually improve our position.
If there was a move to be made on the coaching front I would prefer to see an experienced coach come in as a director of rugby. Someone experienced like McDermott who may not cost the earth but may be able to support on the coaching front as a new perspective.
Spending 500k on what I don’t know and getting relegated would almost certainly mean we would start in the championship with a sizeable debt. It could be the difference between having the best player budget in the championship or a lower-mid.
40k or so on a director of rugby experienced coach to support may not be a bad idea in my book. We very much have what we have got though.

| Agreed totally the 500k would also include support for the coaching staff

| McDermott is currently assistant coach at the Newcastle Knights so I'm guessing it would take considerably more than £40k to tempt him to join us....personally I've never been a fan of his!!

| Where is the £500k coming from again?
I do agree though. If we are spending money I'd rather it was to support the current coaches and players than replace.

There's an "investor" waiting in the wings.

Although I like your sentiment (about staying loyal to the current playing & coaching staff), they dont seem capable of getting us a win, never mind keeping us in SL.
Only those at the top know what is in the "pot" and available to spend but, the absolute certainty is, that, if nothing changes, we will be in The Championship and right now, that could well mean, staying there for a very long time.
With IMG certain to make some changes and with clubs like Trinity and Cas already looking vulnerable, it could be part time rugby for us and and we could become the next Halifax (no disrespect to them).

So if what you say about IMG is true, then it doesn't matter whether we get a win this year or not. IMG will send us down.
Personally I think the work off field is putting is in a good position. Not for A yet of course. But a decent B. And if that's the case, we have a route back, and Mash's kids will be a big part of that.

“Their reasoning to me was they wanted to achieve top six. I don’t know how they would do that spending the least money in the competition.”
If they wanted Top 6 with the current squad and coaching set up then delusional is an understatement.

| I wonder if we are bringing in players on two week loans in preparation for when we sign a dual registration agreement with a SL club.

| I know it’s a finance thing, but….A fair few years since Wigan were in our position, they reasoned that they needed a mean prop and a new coach. They then signed Stuart Fielden and Brian Noble, they avoided relegation that season, it can be done. To speculate to accumulate is never more apt for us

But
1 they had the money
2 didn't they later lose points for salary cap breach?
You can't speculate if you don't have any money.
