If I was short sighted I could become a referee!: |
|
| Watching Leeds v Leigh on Friday played at Post Office Road you can't but admire what they have done to their ground. It just makes me wonder why instead expecting the local authority or Yorkcourt to build us a super duper stadium we didn't try to buy the ground back and gradually rebuild it as Featherstone have done. A few year ago all three Wakefield district clubs had crumbling grounds . Now the poorest of those clubs has a ground to be proud of whilst Wakefield and Castleford are still hoping for a fairy godmother to present them with a spanking shiny new stadium off the M62 !

| The ground was mortgaged and sold years ago it was a millstone. I think you will find the club was going to bid recently when it was purchased by the current owner. In addition the cost of refurb probably wasn't economical. Without going over ploughed ground again.

I think people should read the ploughed threads before throwing a tarp over it and planting rhubarb.
That's the trouble though, its gone on so long people forget what's happened and why things are like they are.
I'm sure if tarp and rhubarb was an option, it would have been done.

| I think, had we have bought the ground back a couple of years ago, this would be a very valid possibility, dependant on available funds.
For me, the difficulty is the west terrace, as I don't think there is much room, and I feel, for the ground to reach its potential, the pitch would need to be moved a little.
Without going on, Hull KR have done similar. Yes the stadium is still relatively new, but when originally built was very basic, but when required, and when they can, have done little upgrades here and there.

| My understanding of how fev were able to do so well with there stands was they did it via grants and bought the stand 2nd hand
Was it Scarborough fc they bought it from?
Those grants wouldn't be available to us as we are a pro club and fev semi pro
Agree though fevs ground is a credit to them

| Yes I do M62.
First season I went down to watch that I can remember was 1980-81 season, and I think the stand was pulled down almost immediately after the Bradford fire.
There just doesn't seem to be loads of room at that side.

If the terracing didn't start so low & the terracing was done to a higher angle, it would transform the view. Saying that I stood there for years in it's present form.

Flatten the area, put in a set of 6 temporary stands (only 16 feet deep) (other variations are available), = 900 seats down the side of the ground. https://grandstandhire.co.uk/
I don't know the costs obviously, but that sorts out the away stand, whilst the rest of the ground is upgraded permanently.
I know...wishful thinking...not gonna happen.

| I would suggest the reason Fev have made more progress on their facilities than Wakey (or Cas for that matter) is that Asa Amone knocked on all those years ago at McAlpine. Since then we've spent a fortune hanging on to Super League status whilst they have been happy to plod along in the 2nd tier.
I think I'm still happy we won that game though.

Try asking Mark Campbell if he's been "happy to plod along in the 2nd tier"!
