| Watched NRL try time last night, they mentioned him during the Canberra game and said he took a pay cut to join them and is on considerably less than Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer

| Was sorry to see him leave, didn't quite work out but showed his class in places last year.

| Might have won a couple of games more this year if he was still with us as he definitely won us a few last year with great halfback play. Just never settled properly..

| Was he not the only one to kick a 40/20 for us last year?

| Any HB coming from down under is expected to be akin to Wally Lewis.
Williams got on with his work quietly but, as usual, the masses expected an absolute world beater and he could never be that good.
He isn't the first and wont be the last HB that cant live up to the unreasonable expectations put on him in some quarters.
Good luck to him.

Initial expectations and final decisions by our coaching staff at the end of the day, surely?

I'm not sure really.
Chesters quote at the time was "Sam will bring a wealth of experience and a good kicking game,"
"He is a great signing for the club, a big coup and a number of Super League clubs were chasing his signature."
And for the fans, this makes him the next Wally Lewis, which he was never going to be.
He certainly had some great games for us and went under the radar with numbers of assists but he did little for Catalan in his short spell there and when expectations are so high, the player is on a hiding to nothing.
The real issue here is the scarcity of decent halves and the top #6 & #7 just dont come over here or, they cost more that clubs like Trinity can afford.

It was Williams with 2 and Grix with 1 (surprised with that)

I get all that but my point was he went home because of either his or our coaching staffs decision not the opinion of fans.

| Sam is a great HB in the NRL, he was good for us but we play the game differently, I expect both parties came to the same conclusion.

Agreed, it's a good job the fans dont decide who stays and who goes, it would be an interesting experiment and there are some "great" coaches on here, so it wouldnt be too hard to find one

I liked Sam when he was here, a little too much expectation on his shoulders from some fans but he played well, really well in some games.
Tbh though against the Bulldogs I thought he was pretty average, Aidan Sezer on the other had run the show with his passing and pinpoint kicking. When you watch Canberra play there is so much less onus for him to be the man like there is in SL because he's surrounded by other quality players who can kick, pass and put players through gaps. In the games I've seen him play this season, which is 3, never once have I thought, he looks a better player than he was for us, still got the same game and that's no bad thing.
