Whats so special about that. those kind of developments are the norm up and down the land.
local authorities all over the UK can do this apart from WMDC who lurch from one embarrassment to another.
Also look at our City centre, its becoming a run down slum.
How this jokers keep in power beggars belief.

| Pleased for York that there is some concrete positive news for their rugby and football teams. And if someone were to say make a comparison between York and Wakefield Councils in the media, Box and WC could be embarrassed further...

| The issue for Wakefield Council is having three teams in one district that all need a new/redeveloped ground. If we were the only team in the district or we'd agreed years ago to share in somewhere like Normy it'd have been done years ago. But we are where we are.

They didn't give Leigh a stadium. Leigh rent the stadium and Wigan stadium has nothing to do with the council.

With all due respect to Featherstone R, they are a small village club outside of the top flight whereas the City of Wakefield comprises Horbury, Ossett, Wrenthorpe, Outwood, Lupset, Durker, Sandal, Eastmoor, Agbrigg, Kettlethorpe, Netherton etc. etc. As for Castleford, it appears they are are well on their way to getting a stadium plus sporting facilities. Therefore the argument that the district needs to build three stadiums or one super stadium geographically suitable to all is something of a red herring today.
The Metropolitan District of Wakefield encompassing such a large area was a stupid, ill thought out concept invented by some crazy tory politician back in the 70s. But surely, it need not be an obstacle any more.

Featherstone have very tidy ground that they have redeveloped on their own so don't need a new ground.
The Council have negotiated a fantastic deal for Castleford where they are able to buy a £13m 10,000 capacity stadium for £1 which they will be the owners off and place it on their Assets Register.
So we only have one team that needs a new ground. We only ask that the Council negotiate the perfect deal that they promised so we have a new ground although unlike Castleford we would be tenants and unable to place it on our Assets Register.
This is not an attack on the Labour Party but an attack on the failures of Wakefield Council. The fact that the Council is Labour controlled is an irrelevance.

Not too sure and stand to be corrected but wasn't that Tony Benn?

Wasn't it Ted Heath Government who set the wheels in motion but were ousted before it came into play? We still had a Wakefield City Council around 1972.

Maybe I'm getting mixed up with the introduction of the post code with Tony Benn.
