Drop Goal Delight for KiwisThe expectation at a full John Smith's Stadium in Huddersfield was palpable for an English winning start to their four nations campaign against a New Zealand side keen to banish all memories of a loss against Australia a fortnight ago.
England were the slight favourites with most bookies, but there was very little to choose between the two sides as Sam Burgess returned to the international rugby scene as the England captain.
Coach Bennett make a handful of changes to the side who beat France in last weeks friendly, most notably through the inclusion of Dan Sarginson and Sam Burgess, meaning that three of the Burgess brothers would be in action this afternoon.

| Great day out, great atmosphere, great Rugby league event, pity about result. Best team won but could have gone either way. Nice to see Sam back all Burgess brothers awesome part from one wayward pass (Sam!)
also have to say forgot because bought ticket so long ago but amazing value for price of ticket.

| Thought our halves were disappointing, as was Sarginson.
Just dont get this with Widdop at all. Gale deserved his chance but should have played alongside Williams who has been by far the best English no6 in SL this year by far.

| I thought Widdop had one of his better games for England, his kicking was good and his pass to Hall was great, just a shame about the interception. Gale was fairly anonymous and Sarginson, Bateman & Lomax didn't look anywhere up to scratch. For me Williams is still pretty raw and although he has a good running game, he needs time improve the rest of it, like game control and kicking imo. Although I'd like to see him against Scotland to see what he can do.
Ateotd we just don't have anyone as good as Johnson, no matter who you bring into the halves and he was the difference imo. Also thought Taumalolo had a good game & made big meters for NZ.
Sam Burgess i thought tried a bit too hard at times, that led to errors and should keep to doing what he does best. Not that surprised though since it's his first game as Captain and hasn't played for England RL in a few years. His brothers were a bit underwhelming tbh and George in particular doesn't look in the form he was a couple of years ago.
Said it before but I think both NZ and Aus have an advantage of having played recently against each other in a Test match, while we had for the most a walk over against a poor French side. Not the greatest prep to play either NZ or Aus.
It's another very close frustrating loss again, that I think we should have got at least a draw from but I think generally we'll get better as we go along. Trouble is we lost and will struggle to get to the final now.

You know I think your wrong. I think we'll do a typical backs to the wall job against the Aussies - but will get nowhere near it again in the finals where we will be whooped.

| Its happening a few times.
Middle 8s Hull KR v Huddersfield.
Had that have been correctly disallowed Hull KR would have finished 3rd and safe with Huddersfield in MPG.
Time our sport used the technology we have.
Out of curiosity it was the same referee

Rubbish Danny Broughs was a clear a drop as any.
I take it back for the NZ one though.

| The Danny Brough one was correct in my view. The Johnson one appears not.

I said it didn't at the time but as no one questioned it I wasn't bothered.

The reaction of the players was that it the Johnson effort was ok.
No quibble from the England players and some celebration from the Kiwis.
We should have taken our own opportunities to level the score.
Clock ticking, central field position and with the clock ticking and we went for the win (twice).
We should have leveled the scores and then trie to go for the win, it seemed brave, stupid or just naive ?

| A couple of points.
1. I was sat right high up and parallel to the final pass for the kiwi first try and it was about 2 yards forward.
2. I also thought the messing around by kiwi at the PTB was shocking . To me Hicks was 'over compensating' the way he reffed the game to avoid any kiwi controversy.
