Here's my effort,

Mr Cameron,
This proposal should be seen by local and national government as manna from heaven!
Wakefield finished bottom of a government league table for cities with the worst provision of  sports and leisure facilities , BOTTOM!

Wakefield also has one of the highest levels of unemployment in the country.
The district is set to suffer further unemployment as part of the austerity cuts introduced last year.
In George Osbournes austerity announcements of last year, I lost count of the number of times it was stated that private industry would be encouraged to introduce new jobs to help soften the blow of job losses in the public sector.

WHY OH WHY then has this development been called in for a public inquiry?
We have a private developer ready to fully fund the building of new sports facilities for the district, there will be zero cost to the local District Council.

Included in the build will be a new 15,000 capacity stadium for the Cities only professional sports team, a stadium desperately needed for the club but also for the district and it's community. Wakefield Trinity provide an education to tens of thousands of the districts residents every year. Subjects include but are not limited to?: healthy living, mathematics, English, dietary advice, obesity, bullying etc etc.
The club also works with the community to promote tolerance, multiculturalism, equity and equality.
This is a resource which we simply cannot afford to lose from our inner city and once again I'll point out that this comes at zero cost to the District Council.

The development will create something in the region of 400/450 semi permanent construction jobs and it is estimated that 2,500 to 3,000 permanent jobs will be created, is this not exactly what George Osbourne desperately hoped would happen?

15,000 people signed a petition in favour of this development there are also almost 3,000 letters of support from LOCAL RESIDENTS.

The site is a former colliery and is not greenbelt in nature, however, the developer has been so sensitive to this element that via redevelopment of other areas the will actually be a NET GAIN OF GREENBELT LAND!

The Wakefield councilours voted unanimously to be "minded to approve" the planning permission yet the Secretary of State has chosen to send this to an expensive public inquiry. The delay may well cost the city of Wakefield it's new sport and leisure facilities, it may also rob the city of it's Rugby League club and therefore all the excellent community work it does. Lets not underestimat or fail to mention the creation of thousands of jobs that will offer a lifeline to many families who are desperately struggling during this recession.

I urge you to look into this matter as it is vital to the City of Wakefield that you recognise the huge benefits which vastly outweigh the few drawbacks. This very development is a blueprint for the future and it delivers jobs, economic growth, sport, leisure, community aid and could very well have been exactly what George Osbourne was talking about in last years speech.
Thank you

Richard

A superbly worded and well structured effort Bren2K!

You make some previously unstated points that once again highlight the madness of this going to PI.

Cheers Clan - not bad for a Lupset lad. icon_wink.gif

It looks like the NIMBY's have mobilised - there is now a response containing the usual lies and disparaging comments about the club.

I would urge everyone who reads this NOT to respond in kind. If you're going to add your thoughts, it will be much more effective to ignore the NIMBY's and just say what you feel about the development; a public slanging match weakens our position.

Noticed Scabby Cat and one of I presume the WAR brigade have gone on to add their two penneth (usual crap from them I might add).

Wonder what the WAR viewpoint would be if they were given a straight choice between the development proposed by Yorkcourt or a Travellers site !!!

Totally agree, just focus on support and don't enter the debate... it is hard (I know!) but try to resist. In doing so remember this, we have proved once again that there is overwhelming local support for this development and it is them that are the minority not the majority. They criticised the 15,000 signature petition, so we came back and addressed the issues head-on and collected over 2,700 statements of support in less than 2 months (the majority in the first 3 weeks), while it took them 8 months to get just over a 1000 objections.

We ARE the local majority and the majority want Newmarket!

They are entitled to their opinion and I will not criticise what they have to say no matter how misguided, illogical, nonsensical, bitter and twisted they are!
