Keep franchises out of our game: |
|
| could not fathom the team selection yesterday . When we were likely to struggle in the forwards why have Millard on the bench ? why wasn t he in the centre with either Howarth, or Moriano, on the bench. This is not the first time Kear has failed to put forwards on the bench .When we already have a weak squad why make it weaker by wasting a bench spot and failing to use one of you highest paid players? I have always been a supporter of Kear but i think he is losing the plot. He is also failing to improve the discipline of the side or get the team to understand the sliding defence.

| Discipline is awful, but the players need to show a bit of common sense too. Millard's contribution to the match was to give away two penalties for the exact same, unnecessary infringement. It doesn't take a genius to see that the ref had been over zealous all though the match and adapt accordingly.
Also the leaving the wing wide open has been an issue for roughly two seasons now and has still not been sorted out.

Agree
The problem is Kear will always split the fans into opposing camps with quite a few saying for ages it was time for him to go for the reasons you mention above amongst others, whilst there seems to be an equal proportion happy to let him carry on because of what he has done in the past and because they feel we cant get anyone better. Don't see this changing that much to be honest.
Fortunately his contract is up at the end of the year and we wont be in SL, so we will have the option to get a young coach in to start to build a team of hopefully young english (and preferrably mostly local lads) for life in the lower leagues.

| When I saw the starting 13 and Millard wasn't in it, I thought it was because he was going to Catalan and we therefore were not risking him getting injured.
To see him as one of the subs was a major suprise and as has been said a big mistake.

| It's plain stupidity of any player, after about 5 minutes of that match, not to adapt to how the game was being refereed. Similar to the game at home against Crusaders last year where we didn't learn and were deservedly beaten.
Even more moronic is a penalty for dissent. Speaking back to the ref is a no-no from the first time you play.

Players need to be held to account for this, Child made it quite clear, what bothers me is the difference in refs and the way the whistle the game. I saw several incidents in the Wigan/saints game that Child would have pinged, Silverwood did not. We can all offer opinion on which ref got it right but they should all be reffing the way.
Depending on who we get next week will decide just how long we can lay on or hands in, thats just not good enough and Cummins can sit in the ivory tower but he's not doing his job.
Farce.

| I must admit i didn't see the point of having Millard on the bench and i think we would have been better off having Mariano on there who could play second row or centre.
I personally thought the defense was better yesterday even though we conceded 40 points. 6 came from the intercept and another 6 came from Milner being lucky due to the fact that Obst "fell off" in the tackle meaning that it wasn't a double movement. If you take these 2 pieces of luck out of it then the scoreline has a whole different look to it.
Granted Fergy should not have allowed Widders to run round him and Vievers was out of position for one of the trys but these were only individual errors as opposed to problems with the teams defending.

Spot on.
Hes made the same utterley confusing and wasteful bench selections numerous times.
His knowledge of modern coaching techniques is woeful.

Some of the knowledge on the basics such as the defensiuve structure also seem to be woefully lacking. For the last two years any team who play us just have to get the ball out wide and there is usually a winger stranded with a three on one.
The players have changed the problem remains.

problem seems to me that we can defend against anyone who runs across our line, we have noone who will step out of the line and enforce himself on a half back, this then means either a centre or the winger has to come in, leaving either the winger exposed or a gap behind the winger.
I look at the squad and dont see a mobile tackler, a "slater" if you will.

Farce.'" correct. just got back and watched the game again. if our game had been refereed on the same lines as wigan and saints the penalty count would have been halved. our players and cas players were clearing the ruck faster than saints and wigan and we were getting penalised. the refereeing was an absolute farce

I did not see the two games before ours but i believe they were reffed in a similar manner, the along comes Silverwood and does the opposite, now the first game of the season at the same venue when the whole of RL's watching and they can't even sing of the same hymsheet.
No problem with how the games reffed if its consistant, how the hell do players work with Refs.
I have the utmost respect for Refs, its a hard job but Cummins is making it harder.

Thats a fair point. We always seem to let half backs run across the line instead of someone getting in their face.

Don't like to see it myself but Saints and Wigans halfbacks do the same, its maybe considered to much of a risk for someone to come out of the line a nail them.

The other thing we seem to do is take a couple of yards forward and then stop and wait for the opposition to come to us, whereas most of the other teams keep coming and cut down the space to work in and the momentum you can build up for the collision.
Whether it is a fitness thing or not I am not too sure, but in a weird way it probably takes more out of the tank having to stop players who have had the extra yards to build momentum, then getting off the line to meet them.
