While trying to explain the situation (as I understand it) to my wife over the weekend it struck me that we are in the better position. My rationale for this isTHINGS NOT IN OUR FAVOUR
- GH is a well developed site with lots of other visitor attractions which could be deemed useful to match day
- Cas have outline planning permission whereas we don't (but this could be obtained fairly quickly)
- Peter Box - fan shareholder and season ticket holder of Cas would surely want the ground in GH

THINGS IN OUR FAVOUR
-We supposedly have a funding package in place (whereas Cas are understood to have a large funding gap
-We have a well developed and effective pressure group in SWAG
-We have the Community Trust which contains several big hitters who are experienced in such matters(ie Stadium construction experience, political experience etc)
-The Newmarket stadium has always been planned as a Community Stadium for the use of all whereas cas' has been struictly a stadium for Cas - a shared ground at GHH would be a big move from this position.
-My opinion is that Rishard Wright is all out of ideas and has welcomed the proposed feasability study as even if it goes against Cas he can blame the council for forcing his hand rather than having made a horlicks of his own plans.
-The location of Stanley would be more conducive for a shared stadium than GH would be from a geographical point of view (surely a study would highlight this)
-GH is already very busy on a weekend due to other attractions.

Alas sense and practical ideas don't seem to enter into this argument, it's all down to the desires of people with different agendas to Wildcat supporters.

Things not in our favour

1. NIMBY’S
2. Leeds Council.

Things (you would think) in our favour

1. Jobs for the area.
2. Extra money for the cash-strapped Council, Business Rates etc.

The NIMBYs is actually a point Cas will use. No one is going to complain about the GH site. It is already an area used for general entertainment rather than housing. It's quite a way to the next house that would be disrupted.

Things not in our favour

Wakefield City Metropolitan District Council. Is it any coincidence that they throw a spanner in the works the month that planning is due to be returned? Is it any coincidence that they recommend a feasibility study delaying the process until at least September, the same month when the "offer" on the council owned land given to us to lend against expires? They know exactly what they are doing, and sadly without them, we will float on down the kazoo and nobody other than the fans will notice. Whether he is a member on the board of Castleford or not, councillor Peter Box will have had his ten years in the sun, have precious little to show for his time, but will retire having enjoyed the power he once had. Fans like us, and clubs like Wakefield don't matter one jot to people like him, and a council like ours and that sadly is a fact.

Not a blinkered view at all then .......................... Why on earth would Stanley be more conducive for a shared stadium, is it because its still in wakey and you dont want to travel to Cas ?? Well the same thing goes for your better supported neighbours.

Richard Wright is not all out of ideas, the never had any, but the funding shortfall just means a phased development with the ends of the ground to be filled in later, this is a chance, perhaps the best chance for Trinity to survive as long as there are concrete reassurances that it is short term until Newmarket gets built.
As per Rodney Walkers pleading with Cas since Newmarket was announced.

As much as you lot and swag keep saying the nimbys case is not strong, if they shout loud enough people will take notice , and they seem to be gaining support, along with the underhand dealing of Leeds city council, they may not stop the development but they can delay it so much as to make it too late for Trinity's superleague future.

Face it, were both in the but i think Cas arent in it as deep as Trin at least we still own our ground.

I have said it before and I will say it again ...................... stay where we are and play in whatever league the cheating clowns at red hall want us in (thats certainly not superleague).

Dont take this post the wrong way, its not an 'ours is better than yours ' type post, just my take on the whole ty situation

Might even be fun us 2 and the cappers in the same league, Superleague cant buy that sort of rivalry and atmosphere that is at these games, even the bloody 'friendlies' are more intense than 75% of superleague games.................................. its their loss if it comes to it

You keep coming up with this, but we are yet to see any evidence that he has been peddling this for so long.

The only thing that matters is the Council and Mr Box. If he manages to wreck it like he is trying, then we have failed for letting him get away with it.

can you show proof that he is trying to wreck anything ?????
If he was a Wakefield supporter and took the opposite view even if the facts pointed to GH, would that be ok ??????

Quite balanced for you, old chap.

The threat of it getting called in won't matter, as it will get looked at anyway. The issue is whether or not it goes to a public enquiry, which it probably won't, as they are expensive, and as the land is scheduled to be redesignated as development land anyway by the council, it would be seen as an expensive waste of time.

The rail links is a good point, but equally the pre-existing congestion at Glasshoughton could be a factor in favour of Newmarket. Would the other businesses want the whole place swamped by rugby-only fans every week? It would put other punters off.

Planning permission is a good point again, but that is all in the hands of the council, who could have given us outline permission last week if the wrecking ball hadn't started to swing once more.

There are pros and cons to each, but the debate boils down to rugby rivalries, and it's as simple as that. The council holds all the trump cards at the moment, and you know what they say, that the house always wins.

It is amazing how knowledgeable you can sound when you have a pint with Sandal Cat.

You speak to anyone in the know, and I have done, and they all have the same view of the situation.

My view is that his rugby affiliations should not be even part of the picture, and that it is his professional and civic duty to do his best for the district as a whole. If the proposals are not good enough, then fine, that's the way things go, but as I have said in a different thread, the outcome of an "independent" feasibility study can be determined by the scope of the question it is being asked to answer.

How many times do you need it pointing out. Match traffic will be directed to/from the new link road from Normanton and Jct31. The Stadium has parking for 1200 cars (Newmarket - 800), in addition to Xscape overflow, which is hardly used at present. Are you actually saying also that Xscape and Jct32 Shopping would not want to tap into any of the potential customers 500 yds away before or after a match. d040.gif

Edited for accuracy.

Newmarket is around 4 miles from Wakefield and 5 miles to Cas.
Glasshoughton is 1 mile from Cas and 8 miles to Wakey.

Thats why it would be more conducive, its more even in terms of distance for each supporter to
travel. Not Rocket Science is it?
