Despite the best efforts of Brian Smith, in what seemed to be a genuine effort to boost the attendance for Sundays game it didn't work.
The 'crowd' (barely fits the definition) of just over 3k was pathetic.
Warrington brought a few hundred with them I would have thought, so once again the people of Wakefield demonstrated that they don't deserve a professional outfit in the city.
I am embarrassed when the figure is announced at the match but what's worse is that the stay aways are signing the death warrant of this great club.

Nobody can deny that the crowd figure is poor.
We have been dropping fans at a fair rate for the last couple of seasons and although it is refreshing for someone from the club to encourage people to come, much damage has already been done, not least Webster writing off the season.
The hard core fans and the club are going to have to work damn hard to attract the stay away fans plus some newbies.

The club have started putting out emails etc but we need to work hard to promote the middle 8's and try and finish the season with some better attendances but, 16 straight losses and a coach saying that the first 21 games weren't important has kept all but the die hards away.

When you come away from games, most of the fans are in the over 40 age group and it seems clear that we need to re engage with the younger fans.
Of course doing away with the student S/T hasn't helped.

No the team Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have showed most of the season they don't deserve support.

It took McNally and Kear years to take us up to a (real not Glover) average of about 5,000 fans - it's taken this set of clowns a season maybe 2 to lose them. I think Smith appearance has given fresh hope but you won't turn this nightmare of this season - and be honest it's been atrocious - in 5 games. You offer people that level of crap it's almost impossible to get them back, even a winning streak won't work. We have pretty much done what we didi in the mid 1980's and lost a generation of fans.

I think that right there is the big issue, 70 percent of the young lads I know did not renew there season ticket this year.

Still think it was the wrong decision - Correct me if I am wrong, I think we are the only team in Rugby League not to have student prices.

Whether we ,who would go turn up whatever, like it or not; if the crowds are to improve then we have to be winning.
With the current state of Belle Vue we cannot provide no match day experience that will attract families with young kids and I have
no doubt the long drawn out Newmarket / Yorkcourt saga will have disillusioned more than a few.
All that can be currently offered is a winning team to attract the stay-aways back.

Agree that lack of student tickets have driven people away, also increase of OAP tickets from 60 to 65 haven't helped either.

EVENTUALLY, WE'LL WIN SOMETHING, ,MAYBE, IF I'M STILL ALIVE THEN:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_31007.jpg

I think the middle 8's have a lot to do with it, and also the reason why people watch sport: a contest that means something.

For the last few weeks, the games have been meaningless other than a progress report. People watch sport to be entertained and because the result matters in some way. Expecting fans to pay £22 on match day just to help ensure that a team remains in Wakefield is akin to a charitable donation. It's like saying, "pay £22 to watch a poor team play in poor surroundings, and if you do, you can be assured that you can continue to watch a poor team play in poor surroundings". It's a circle that goes nowhere and the Newmarket situation is killing everything. It took away a lot for me, just because the Yorkcourt stance just nailed it home that we were always going to be a bottom club playing in a decaying dump. The new start moved over the horizon.

As for the middle 8's, you might see crowds come back for that. From my own perspective, a game involves a lot of commitment regarding time and travel and when I have other commitments, and I haven't seen the point in going to games that have no point. But I'll be at every middle 8 game (when not on holiday). I can't be alone in that, that people will pay to see a meaningful contest.

I do think the club needs to look at how it markets itself, and I don't mean by emails. I mean in how it presents itself. It seems as intent on alienating fans sometimes as encouraging them back. It's in the entertainment business. If customers are staying away, address it, but not by blaming the customers. As customers, we are always right.

What would a Cockney know about rugby league?:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_73558.jpeg

I'm a 'newbie' since moving to the area in 2007. Had a season ticket for a few years, my son is 8 now and so does he. There is bugger all else to do in Wakefield so the attendances baffle me to be honest. The club have a decent profile in the area with school/community work and plenty of people take an interest, just not in going to the games sadly.

We need bigger crowds back in for the middle 8s and cheap tickets may be the only way to go. Whether that be 3 game deal or £15 a head per game / kids for a quid etc isn't up to me but the club need to do something to get people through the gate. It would pain me a season ticket holder to know they were getting a better deal but I'd hope it would be worth it in the long run.

Long term the student season ticket rate might need to be reinstated, not something I personally agree but maybe I'm just out of touch. Cheaper single junior tickets for match days to encourage the teenagers to come on their own if their parents won't take them for some reason or another. If the systems are open to abuse then work to close the loopholes. Grown adults are more of a problem - unfortunately we're a throw away society and it seems people are happy to bin off their rugby club if they don't think they are being treated like a king on match day.

Not sure about the student thing and I would love to see the facts of its loss finacially. The reductions for people just because they are over 60 is crazy OAPs are now over 65 I think. Why should anyone in full time employment be given discount?

I disagree with that comment. If Wigan,Leeds,Saints or anywhere else had to watch a team with our playing history and record ,in such a dump of a stadium. I don't think they would draw crowds much bigger than ours.

I know a family of 5 who spend well over £100 per game to attend. They have got season tickets and have given up attending games even though they have already paid for them.

I know people myself who have season tickets but don't attend - it's not really those that I am targeting - probably none of the people who have been to Belle Vue this season am I criticising.
Even when we had a reasonable team (for a couple of seasons maybe?) we never got the crowds we deserved -there is an apathy in the city and that is without dispute to me.

As for Wigan, Saints etc I maintain that if they went through a season like ours has been they would still be getting better crowds because their spectators are not as fickle as ours.

I imagine there will of been no loss financially because the students that did renew paid 4 1/2 x what they paid the season before so if just 20% renewed which I am guessing will have done, there wont be much of a difference.

But lets look at it this way - Imagine if the Student tickets were was upped to maybe £120 rather than full price, do you think as many would have not renewed? Or do you think that maybe there would of been a higher rate of renewals?

In that case there would be more season tickets sold (More or less same income on sales revenue) - More bodies in the ground, better atmosphere & more potential for sales on match day, obviously creating more revenue for the club.

It just didn't make sense to completely drop the student prices, yes, put it up by all means but full price?

I will say it again we are the only club that I know of in RL (Not just SL) to not have student priced tickets.

Near enough every establishment these days have student prices or student discount why? Because without it they would lose a large chunk of business.

I have stated before on here that I have been told that the number of student season ticket holders was not a significant number according to the club so I am not sure doing away with it has lost that many fans - the potential to attract a new generation of fans possibly but again young adults tend to want to watch a winning side unless they are already hooked having attended as a kid

If this is true, then it must have been under James Websters era.So now we've got Brian Smith, some new signings and being a lot more competitive in games, why don't they give it another chance. The stadium thing I can't argue with, but I go to watch the game, close up,not the decor. Can't possibly think of any excuse or reason to stop watching Trin, apart from dropping dead obviously. icon_biggrin.gif
