| More great work from the club.
At Sandal Spartans we've recruited two lads from Barnsley, neither had ever played Rugby League before but both have made huge advancements in their game.
Ones a front rower who has started hitting the line and busting tackles the others a second rower who has real pace but no regard for his or anyone else's well being, he gets the crowd on their toes everytime he touches a ball.
I think both recently bought season tickets for next year.
Barnsley is a massively untapped resource IMO.

| I think the wildcats should keep building connections in the Barnsley area for sure, maybe get involved in the amature rugby clubs school and college..

| Probably not doable for next season but maybe we could take a game 'on the road' to Barnsley in the summer break (football).
Make it cheaper tickets (say £10) or discounts for Barnsley season ticket holders (football).
Try to get as many fans from Barnsley/South Wakefield/South Yorkshire as possible and then try and get them to Belle Vue before the hopeful move to Newmarket.

| Good stuff.
It seems there is quite a bit of latent support for WTW in Barnsley - it would be good to see the Barnsley chapter pulling up in a coach outside NM in years to come!

| Absolutely agree.
There are plenty of Wildcats supporters in Cudworth & Shafton areas.
I am a member at Grimethorpe WMC and the village had a RL team until recently.
Ronnie Wildman was from the village and his picture in Hull F C has pride of place in the tap room.
Willowgarth High School played rugby league and has now been absorbed into Shafton Academy.
They have rugby posts up.
Hope the Wildcats are in touch with the headmaster as this is a big school with vast potential.

Interesting - think we'll get in touch and see if they're hiding a barnstorming jr prop or two!

| Absolutely agree with the ethos of this thread - although I've moved to Huddersfield in the last year, I've been a Barnsley lad but a Wakey fan all my life (37 years). Barnsley is an untapped area in terms of potential fans, a quick poll of car stickers would reveal a good number of Wakey, Cas and Rhinos in the borough.
At 'An Audience with.....' a couple of years ago, me and my mate suggested to the club that they should go towards Barnsley in terms of marketing in schools etc...., but the reply from the club (JK in fact it was who replied, being a Barnsley resident) was that 'Barnsley is a football town'.
Although it's true, the town loves the football team, to me this is an ideal opportunity for appropriate and achievable expansionism, and I think Trin should get into this before Cas and Fev make hay due to their closeness.

They might just have stopped moaning about the state of the pitch after THE saints game.

| Its about time wakefield realised there is huge potential in the barnsley area.
Keiron Hyde and Dale Lawton both came through Dodworth.
There has been a strong amateur game in Barnsley for a good twenty-five years now and this became quite strong when sheffield were in the top flight. As i have played amateur rugby for Dodworth, Hoyland and Rotherham in the past I have seen some clubs come and go but there has always been a good support at amateur and all this really needs imo to gain some decent return is a willing by one of the big clubs (hopefully wtw) to get involved and bring in some good support and interest in this potentially hot bed for talent.
I still remeber us beating saints at oakwell in our first year in superleague (i think it was our first year please correct if not) and thought that this could well have made a really good road show for our team and sport in the area.

| South Yorkshire, not just Barnsley, is a large 'untapped' area! We should be looking to partner Doncaster or Sheffield like other SL teams are doing.

| I live in Barnsley, the potential is huge there is also a bit of discontent with the football at the moment there is a standard charge of £25 for match tickets making it a dear do for Family's. Always thought it would have made sense to put the new ground at the Barnsley side of Wakefield so the area could be tapped for new support.
