| Call me an old fuddy-duddy, stick-in-the-mud traditionalist if you like, but... what's in a name?
AG has stated that all 3 names will remain: 'Wakefield Trinity Wildcats'. I have no real issue with this. Although I think the 'Wildcats' moniker is cheesy and ill thought out, I can accept that it is here to stay. My issue, as I have stated previously, is that I do not wish the traditional, famous name of 'Trinity' to be lost.
I should be encouraged by the consistent use of 'Wakefield Trinity Wildcats' in all the new regime's missives, but I feel this is an unsustainable position. The name is simply too long, clumsy and cumbersome. Seven syllables is too many; between one and five is the optimum.
So, what happens? the name gets shortened to 'Wakefield Wildcats' and the Trinity tradition is lost.
P.S. Apologies to those expecting some link to branded chronological merchandise.
Evidence:
The club's official website domain name (although this may change with the new site?).
The club's official facebook page (although it was stated as an error when producing the new page?).
The engage superleague's official website results page. (Even Hull Kingston Rovers get their full title)
I feel we need to keep this issue in the club's consciousness.
Does anyone know of other places where the shortening is habitually used?
or even where good old 'Wakefield Trinity' is retained?
I'm not paranoid (who's to say they're not all after me? ), but I feel while ever the Wildcats stays in the official name (rather than as the official nickname) it's a slippery slope to 'Wakefield Wildcats'.

| SKY call us Wakefield Wildcats all the time, it gets on my wires (no pun intended Warrington fans) and sometimes they dont use other clubs "extra" names at all.
I know its not all about us old gits, but its Trinity for me all the way, USE IT OR LOSE IT!!!

| I may be stating an unpopular view, but to be honest I don't give a monkey's what we are called!! Tradition is okay, but times move on and it is what we are now what matters. Whilst we need to remember and acknowledge the past, we need to focus on the future and where we are going.
If that means we are called Wakefield Wildcats, so be it!

| Gets right on my nerves.
The official website should lead form the fore. The match reports generally exclude any reference to Trinity. The Express has followed on and it’s all Wildcats. Thank havens for the Guardian and Andy Wilson who still refers to the club as Wakefield Trinity, as does the Yorkshire Post.
There was the chance to ditch Wildcats when the club came out of admin, unfortunately it was not taken. If the clubs name must be shortened let it be Wakefield Trinity. It is being removed by stealth, as the people who mentioned young kids now refer to the club as Wakey Wildcats <shudder> illustrates.

But that is surely the point!! The younger fans can relate the the Wildcats monicker as it is more exciting (to them) than "Trinity". They are the future and the ones we need to attract.
You sound very dismissive by "shuddering" at kids using the name "Wakey Wildcats".

I think you're right - Wakefield Wildcats it will eventually be and those of us who care won't be around to complain.
To me it's Trinity - to my kids, it's the Wildcats; as Alan Partridge once said - you've to to evolve, not revolve.

They would still be interested if it was Trinity, I was. Are kids so stupid these days they can only follow something if it has a nice fluffy animal as the name. If so how do Hull FC cope, or St Helens or Manchester Utd. The thing is anything can be marketed, anything at all. In Trinity the club had a unique name and a world famous one. The Wildcats tag was a lazy and unnecessary addition.

I'm dismissive as the name Trinity has been lost to a generation and is likely to be lost forever.

We were all young once you know, and Trinity was good enough for us to get excited about, i know everyones different but sometimes i thing people forget it was only introduced as a marketing tool in SL, where over all (probably the Bulls aside) it hasn't really worked any better than the clubs previous names.
Are you allowed, to even shudder near a kid in these PC gone mad days!?!?!?!?!

But times move on and like it or not kids are more attracted by the "Wildcats" name. I know it is only marketing, but we now live in a world where it seems almost everything is marketed!
BTW, the reference to "shuddering" near a kid is nothing to do with "PC" (I never said it was!), but more the condescending approach KK seemed (to me) to be taking to kids using "Wildcats"!

Might be something to do with the success of the team (FC excepted) and , dare I say it, in the case of MUFC, the succesful marketing of the club both in the UK & overseas.
In the case of MUFC they had a geniune world famous name in a worldwide sport. We have a name that was famous in a sport played by a limited number of countries.

Only if you've consulted all the stakeholders, undergone an enhanced CRB check and arranged supervision by a fully qualified shuddering compliance officer from the Local Authority.
Given all of the above - shudder away!

| 'Trinity' is [itradition only[/i for most. Most of us aren't religious and three long names is far too many, if anything Trinity seems a more puny prospect than Wildcats. 'Trinity Stadium' or 'Trinity stand' at the new stadium will do for me.

Absolutely agree, time has moved on, imagine how powerful an image Trinity would have been now if they had marketing back in the 60's.
I was only attempting humour with the "shuddering" you must have missed it, don't worry about KK he's just grumpy because he's getting old like the rest of us, can you imagine playing football in front of his house!!!!!!!!!
