What would you like to see happen I'm going for 12/14 SL 2 up 2 down play each other home and away whoever wins league are champions and introduce another cup competition. It's a format that seems to work perfectly well in all other sports

Disagree. I love the fact we have a grand final and don't know the league winners until the final game of the season.

I love the Grand Final. This should never be taken away.
I'd happily reduce the top 8 to either 6 or 5

Franchise done well works. If we are not going to do it well, we might as well have P&R

Couldn't disagree with any more vehemence... The last game of the season should decide the champions.... End of!

I thought last season with Wigan & Warrington resting players and rotating the squad in anticipation of the play offs make a mockery of the end of the league season. I agree the grand final is a good spectacle but we could have similar play off premiership final with more importance going back to the challenge cup which seems to have lost its value in recent years. We definatly need P&R back to unite the game again.

Although it was probably financially improbable, I would’ve liked to see the three way spilt with the funding gap a damn site closer than what was proposed (70, 20, 10) was proposed I think). I don’t see the major issue the rebel clubs had with this system as it would largely have no effect upon them anyway (London aside). I suppose their issue is with Wood and I agree with them. He’s remained unchallenged for far too long.

Ideally I would like to see a conference system introduced, with 2 leagues of 10, after 18 rounds the top five of each conference go on to play each other in a separate league and the and bottom five the same, after a nine game league (playing each opponent once with a with a magic weekend) the play offs would then be the top five of each new league to decide the respective champions. SL champions and a secondary champion. This keeps everyone keen until the later stages of the second section of the season.

When trying to formulate the future you have to first take stock of the past and the present.
I would ask:
What is working well with SL and is worth keeping and what was the driving force behind the change to SL and the reason for change now? and what have been the pro's and con's as a result.
For me the many of the values of british sport and our game in general have suffered throught he period of change that covers he SL era. We have seen the demise of the national knock out competition, the demise of the national team, the loss of connection between the top level of the game and the lower leagues and the promised business model for all SL clubs to adapt to and attain has never materialised - furthermore the game is no further along the track to sustainable professionalism than it was 20 years ago if the sky money is taken out of the equation.
So what are the benefits, i can only say that outside of the spectacle of the big day at Old Trafford i cand honestly think of anything we have now that is better than the old days", and the game itself is lacking in consistency due to the mis management of the RFL.

I agree with the OP. I think it's stupid that the 'Champions' could come 8th in the league. Hudds are this seasons 'true' champions and should have the recognition they deserve. I'd also bring back the Yorkshire Cup!

Top 5 was by far the best play off format. It only includes the best teams.

Which ever structure the RFL decide to go with they need to stick with it long term not advise clubs to follow one formula (licensing) then just change to a different one with different criteria. British sports fans like the tried and tested formula of a recognised league structure with the winner crowned champions and P & R at the end of the season.

Not really. As has been shown on here some prefer the last game to be the deciding fixture. If other sports tried that formula I'd expect done of those sports supporters to like to as well. Licensing was great too, just managed poorly by the RFL. lots more progress with great young players coming through and better facilities being built. This is exactly what was needed. Licensing should have carried on for 20 years at least to keep seeing the benefit. The RFL needed to have the balls to take licences off clubs, but it didn't.

I think a lot of clubs should have had the balls to embrace the spirit of licensing too, and use it as an opportunity to shape up. Sadly, they didn't, and we are one of them. Money thrown down the drain.

As for the new structure, it's a tough call. We've experimented with so many different formats in the past, it's hard to know where fairness lies. I'm happy enough with the playoffs, although for the sake of what I see as fairness, I'd probably reduce it to a straight knock-out between the top 4.

Stay with 14 - we need the 13 home fixtures and bring back P&R (1 up - 1 down) with minimum standards.

Bring back the Yorkshire and Lancashire Cups plus it'd be great if teams like Australia and New Zealand toured and played the top 8 clubs again.

Keep the system for Grand Final but promotion and relegation is needed.
