I don't blame ref for last nights results, he made several calls that turned out to wrong, thats understandable, no way can a ref be expected to get all decisions correct, balls steals or knock on, tackled in the air or competing for the ball, grounding the ball or knock on, onside offside etc etc. At full speed, live, with just one view it must be a very tough job. That said when there is a video ref at the game there is no reason for these calls to be made incorrectly. We should lean from RU on this, the infield refs and video refs in RU are talking all the time, the video ref advises about foul play, when the ball is in play the ref asks video ref to look at a play and advise him. Watching the Lions last Saturday the video ref and on field ref worked perfectly together, RL should copy and learn. Last night there were some tough calls for the ref that he got wrong, he should have asked for help and then every decision would have been correct, would it of changed the result , probably not but it would avoid the feeling that I have that we were on the wrong end of the luck. By the way the last penalty for been offside at the kick off was pathetic and I believe the ref was an for making that call

It was indeed pathetic. Must have been a toe end over the line. I'll have a look at Cas's kick off on SL show too! Worst one was the Cas knock on on half way when we had passed it. Glaringly wrong even at full speed real time. I don't understand why they don't talk either. Also, I really dislike this system of the on field decision taking precedence. So many poor video ref decisions have come from it. To be fair, Fifita's try looked highly questionable and had the ref signalled no try then it would not have been given in all likelihood. To me the try decisions have got worse as a direct result of the rule

You are correct about the knock on from Hadley, Shenton knocked it out.

However, Wakey were offside from the kick off, if I was a Wakey fan, I would be asking why they don't penalise this more often as it happens a lot.

Just for redress though, you fail to mention the ball been knocked from Webster's hands in the act of scoring, why no video ref. Also the 2 tackles in the air decisions were shocking calls. Wakey benefitted from both.

I thought Wakey were outstanding in the first half and full value for your lead, maybe tired a little in the second and Cas got better.

Really hope you make the top 4.

Wakey were offside from the kickoff and that is inexcusable - ref got that one right
Ben-Jones Bishop had the ball stolen from him in a 2 on 1 - clearly got that one wrong
The tackle in the air penalty where BJB went down hard was I thought a tough call on Cas as both players were competing for the ball, just that BJB ended up catching it and then landing awkwardly due to the collision - should not have been a penalty IMO
There was another ball steal that he gave as knock on against Wakey that was incorrect IMO (can't remember who that was tbh)
I also thought Fifita was taken out when attempting to get across and charge down Gale's drop goal but haven't watched that back as yet.

Not sure why but that's now 4 out of the last 8 league games where we have had Kendall as ref. I think his decision making and control of the game is very poor and I don't really understand why the refs are not allocated more evenly.

Ref wasn't to blame for us losing the game, but he certainly did us no favours in the second half and I would say the majority of 50/50's went against us.

If they had gone to the video ref it was never gonna be a try, the decision would have been a drop out under the sticks.

Would've been interesting to see what the call on fifitas try would've been without the stupid "try no try" novelty.

One angle looks like it's caught the line, one angle looks like it's short.

Plus, fifita had two goes at getting it over, but it's his first one that reached..... He can't have been overly confident at the time.

I guess we'll never know!

Thought a draw would've been a fair result. We were both very good and very poor for 40 minutes apiece

Its all about perception TBH.

No teams supporters will ever have a neutral view.

Wakey fans think we got the calls, Cas fans were enraged about you getting away with slowing everything down in the first 40 and the refs performance as a whole.

The poor refs just cannot win.

I don't think I've slagged the ref off, I've just made a comment on the hands on the ball incident with Webster, Cas fans were talking last night that it should have been a try or a penalty try, I'd guess the best Cas could have hoped for would have been a ten yard penalty.

Yes mate not saying you have, its more a general comment.

Whether a try or no try why did he not go to the screen, he did with others like the BJB obstruction. Which BTW, I thought was probably the correct decision.

No Wakey fans have mentioned the tackle in the air decisions but then say Cas got all the 50/50s.

Each teams fans always think they have been hard done by, its human nature. icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif

Surprisingly most Wakey fans were happy with the ref in the first half.

The point I was making was that RU use their video ref correctly, we dont. Its impossible for an on field ref to get it 100 % correct and when your team is not on sky you just have to accept that the refs are Human and doing their best. When a match is televised and the video ref is in place there is no reason for human error. I am not moaning about decisions, i just want us to use the technology as well as they do in RU. Watch the Lions in the morning and the communication between video ref and onfield ref is great, the game continues while the video refs checks things out and keeps the on field ref updated.

I don't think it should have been a Wakey penalty when BJB was allegedly tackled in the air. Looked like both players were both going fairly for the ball. Think referees generally just panic and give a penalty when someone stays down. I think I know which over tackled in the air incident you are talking about, the one where Cas caught it on the Wakey line on the 5th tackle? If so, right decision that time, both were competing for the ball. Maybe Cas could have got a penalty if they milked it.

I also think he was referring to the one on Minikin at the opposite side where he caught the ball and was tackled in the air and Kendall gave a handover.

He did knock it out but in the process of effecting the tackle - it wasn't a deliberate play at the ball. From what I recall, Hadley may have tried offloading at the time and Shenton's come in from the side and walloped it in the opposite direction when wrapping his arm around. This is where "interpretation" comes in - and the ref, to be fair, was blocked in his view too of that.

I'll have to watch back again on that incident but being a Cas fan, it's harsh to call it a knock-on but without a deliberate play then that's what it is.
