| pointless signing IMO - where is he going to play??
If Collis or Mellars not fit for any particular game I'd rather see us give a bit of game time to Danny Cowling (assuming that Lucas Walshaw is now intended to be played at Second Row). We've also got Motu Tony sat about doing nothing who can cover or play wing and move Cockayne inside.
I know he can kick but to take it off Isaac now when he is starting to look a bit more confident is just daft, will destroy his confidence again.

| Although John has found his kicking boots, doesn't hurt to have another option, and both incumbent centres have hardly made themselves irreplaceable. Can't re Sykes featuring anywhere else.

| He can play
Fullback
Wing
Centre
stand off
So worth it for the amount of positions he can cover. And he also can kick.

| good cover as supercat says. although i don't think he'll get a place unless we start picking up a few injuries. his tackling is dreadful.

| Now that our form has improved and John has found his kicking boots, Sykes may be struggling to get a game.
A few weeks ago all we wanted was a reliable kicker and credit the club for sorting something out, but will he get more of
a chance with us than he did at the Bulls.
At the moment, I cant see him getting much of a chance.

| Pressure on Collis and Mellars plus if we lose John, Smith, Mathers or either wing we have SL experienced cover.
Not the best signing or most necessary signing, but none the less could prove to be a good signing by the end of the season.
He's with us now, like a few others who we all wondered about, we should give him our backing.

| Sykes has potential to turn his career around. I dont think he should get in every week we are begginning to play well. Mathers has been awesome at FB. Cockyne cant be dropped , Fox is hitting form, Johns is kicking better and as for the centres Mellars and Collis if they don't play I would rather see Walshaw or Cowling (as posted on here) . We have just signed a kicker for the sake. Sykes is a back up winger hes very poor at half back.

| I'll say it again, I really do get the impression that John doesn't like kicking goals. And he certainly hasn't got the most powerful of kicks thats for sure, don't think he's managed one from the touchline yet. And maybe leaving Issac to concentrate purely on his game rather than his kicking will mean he'll get even better as well. Sykes gives good cover in plenty of areas and provides competition for places. Cowling isn't ready for superleague yet, Walshaw is seen as a second rower and Kirmond doing a very good and valuble job in the second row, so its an area that we are short in. And why move Cockayne when he's doing so well on the wing and scoring tries for fun. Yes we still need a prop but over the course of the season Sykes will prove to be a useful addition.

Walshaw is a second rower,
Cowling is nowhere near ready for super league,
Collis seems very injury prone at the moment,
Mellars had been playing gash until the warrington game,
Get a grip its a good signing, you would be moaning if say John or Mellars got injured with no decent back up.

| Agree with above posts. Sykes is a very astute signing IMO. He is a very experienced SL player, ex-international and one of the best goal kickers in the game. If he can't tackle how come that hasn't been picked up prior to him playing to SL level and internationals? Trust those in the game that do it for a living such as R.A.
He can also play a number of positions and with Collis struggling with a groin injury over the last few weeks could slot in comfortably at centre and take the pressure off Johns at kicking. Mellars has been a little up and down I think since he's arrived (Bradford game?) and it puts pressure on those backs to perform week in week out. Its a long season and proven strength in depth is required if WTW are to progress and not run out of steam midway through the season.
Didn't Sykes goal kick WTW to death a couple of seasons ago at London Broncos?
Cockayne was being slagged off when he arrived and he's one of WTW impact players and signings of the season.
Lets judge Sykes on his performances for WTW and trust R.A. who if he carries on like this will be picked up by St.Helens. Just need a big barnstorming prop forward now.
I wonder whether Bradford with their financial problems, would be willing to sell Kopchak? One teams misfortune is another teams opportunity:

| Imagine if Sykes does take up the goal kicking mantle and misses the first couple. I can just hear the mumblings in the crowd right now! John has kicked a few goals in the last few games but can hardly reach the posts from the touchline which is why Cockayne took the one on the wing on Sunday.
Good squad signing but not first choice for me.

Walshaw is a centre. Sykes is not a half back hes poor there.

Strange, our coaching staff think differently about Walshaw. And Sykes had a good game at stand off for Bradford against saints a couple of weeks ago.
