*DISCLAIMER, I HAVE TO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS I KNOW. THIS IS JUST AN IDEA I THOUGHT MIGHT INTEREST PEOPLE. FORGIVE ME IF I'M NOT TOTALLY ACCURATE. I ALSO DON'T KNOW THE CURRENT STATE OF PLAY NOR HAVE I HEARD ANYTHING, IT COULD ALL BE GOING GREAT, THANKS*
In the next twelve month the issue of the ground will have to be resolved one way or another. If the Council and Yorkcourt do the honourable thing and provide us with NM or alternatively rebuild BV then all is well. Sadly I was almost laughing (in a bad way) as I typed that last sentence.
Assuming that they renege and TBH I think that's already happened it leaves the club to go it alone and the options are stark to say the least.

Below are example of a modular office block which looks very smart and is actually second hand – price erected was £78,000! and there are better ones than that out of tere.

North stand – you could just repair terracing and considering the cost it's the most obvious and cheapest option. However for me I'd flatten it, replace with seat 30-40 deep plus roof. This would allow money making facilities to be underneath, namely temporary bars and food outlets. Approx 3000.
That's 10,000 capacity, all seated with adequate toilets, bars and foot outlets. Good corporate hospitality and all hard to spot as anything other than permanent unless you look really close. All of it ours and all of it able to be moved and re-erected elsewhere within weeks not years.
I believe we could do it all for less than 3 million pounds, spread over say 6-8 years. The structures would vary but over all I'd suggest they would be worth 1-2 million re-sale.
Below are all stadiums built totally from modular temporary structures.
It's not perfect and there are flaws but for a club in our position it's worth thinking about.
Enjoy

| (Bit of work there Vasty)
If what you propose is feasible ,then why not go one step further. Forget Belle Vue altogether as a pitch, it would be too expensive to rent and getting the ground ready to site the strucures would also be costly.
For a meccano type stadium I thought the best type of site would be a virgin flat green field. The council owe us big time for this fiasco so why not approach them for a couple playing fields that we could rent cheaply and then site the stadium upon it. If the council let us have them for a nominal rent then the money we would save from renting Belle Vue could go towards renting the stands.
I am also sure there are some playing fields that are council owned around Wakefield that are much better located then the dump Belle Vue sits in.

| I think it's a great idea Vasty. Some pretty impressive structures there.
I would take most of those options.
I know you touch on it but a criteria to me would be keeping the boxes or replacing them with something equally useful.
Hospitality will be more valuable as we improve the stadium so we shouldn't replace the boxes with seats alone, as we are effectively improving the value of the hospitality and then taking the facility away.
One of the pictures you put up shows seating with boxes embedded in the back. I like that style.
The other thing I'd watch out for is how much it would take to flatten what we have to a point of being stable enough for the temporary structures.
The US and Grand Prix examples are probably on bare land, in dry environments so easy to throw up. Here we have concrete embedded deep and consistent rain to disrupt the land, and the people who will eventually sit in them. The covers/roof will be more important to some of the other users of the structures.
But overall, I think it's an excellent idea. I hope Mr Carter is watching but if not I would send it to him.

Not so sure about concrete pads. You see plenty of massive temporary stands on golf courses when they have the big tournaments. I presume they just sit on a basic soil/grasss base.

| Interesting stuff Vastman, I have actually done a few projects with Modular build, mainly schools but some offices too and sports changing rooms. The quality is good and design life is 60 years as traditional construction.
Hospitality boxes are all very good but lounges are much cheaper to provide, with easy access to good seating and a bit of thought in getting players and legends into the lounges that can be really effective and marketable at almost the same income for less overhead. There is a great example at Newbury racecourse.
I think it is probably worth at least looking into temporary terracing or some bleachers type seating to maintain a real home advantage - at Huddersfield we are lucky with our stadium, but it is a bit too nice if you compare it say to the side terrace at Warrington.
Interesting stuff though plenty food for thought. Whatever happens you should not leave Wakefield other than on a very temporary basis, i.e. as Saints did for a year in Widnes as their own stadium was being built.

| Some great ideas there Vasty, some great looking stadia. It's got to be resolved sometime in the near future so lets hope there's some movement soon.

| This thought crossed my mind last year. Anyone who has been to Euro Disney will know what I mean, but there's a stunt show and the seating there is pretty basic. It was a really quick count, but it holds about 2500/3000 people and I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper. I'm no expert, but I did wonder at the time what the feasibility would be of having seating like this at Belle Vue and how easy it would be to install.

A temporary stand will still be a structure so will need some sort of foundation to counter the loads (both dead and live) likely to be imposed upon it. Still looking at the options they are very impressive and sound like an ideal solution to a near impossible reaility.
Oh and for me the best place for something like what vastman proposes….

Yes, another location that has crossed my mind, it’s a shame NM was the option on when this scheme was being conceived/coming to fruition. Particularly down by the Doncaster Road end which I understand has been allocated as warehousing.

I agree and the two places that spring to mind straight away are the two original sites identified all those years ago - Thornes park or the playing fields behind the Holiday Inn near Norbury. The latter being ideal in every respect. It's a huge site and this stadium would have a small footprint, much of which could be reduced during the closed season - you could rent out the seating and just keep the offices and the main stand. Also has great potential access.

| Just been reading up on these Vastman, yes this would be a much cheaper option and could work, although not sure of the viabilty of it as being a permanent solution, though at the moment, it looks like the only solution.
Not sure as to whether or not the RFL would buy into it, and can imagine some of the comments from our great friends over the common, especially with their new stadium being approved. Out of curiosity, has the building work on this started as yet?
One cost to consider, stating that the stands and seating are temporary, and can be removed, there would be contractor costs.
Should Newmarket ever happen, or any other site for that matter, and as the stands are classed as temporary. perhaps parts of it could be transported to the new site, which then would reduce the cost of a new stadium.
In the short term, this could be a better alternative to Dewsbury

As regards the RFL they had no issues when London were at Harlequins which was at the time half temporary seating and nowhere near as sophisticated as this. So long as it passes all safety criteria etc they won't care, especially as the suff I'm talking about will be indistinguishable from permanent structure on TV.
I'm sure some reciprocal deal could be done with a supplier where they maintain and erect at BV in return for use of our gear for rental when we are not using it. I know that's a bit vague but you get the idea.
Very good point about N/M never thought of that.
